Former Bethesda developer and previous Elder Scrolls lore master Kurt Kuhlmann has revealed their skepticism about two potential settings for The Elder Scrolls 7. Although the sixth installment of the Elder Scrolls series is yet to be released, some are already looking beyond that.

The potential of Elder Scrolls 7 at some point feels a given, provided the series maintains its immense popularity among gamers. However, with The Elder Scrolls 6 still largely a mystery, most just aren't thinking about another sequel right now. Especially considering Bethesda's development cycles, which, with Fallout and Starfield in the rotation, could feasibly take a possible Elder Scrolls 7 release into the 2040s. A reminder that fans still don't know The Elder Scrolls 6's setting, despite strong rumors pointing towards Hammerfell.

The Elder Scrolls 'Father’ Julian LeFay Steps Away from the Games Industry Over Serious Health Battle

Julian LeFay, also known as The Elder Scrolls’ “father,” is stepping away from the game industry due to a serious health battle.

As reported by The Gamer, former Bethesda developer Kurt Kuhlmann expressed his belief in a recent interview with Kiwi Talks that the studio will avoid both Elsweyr and Black Marsh in The Elder Scrolls 7, as they're home to the Khajiit and Argonian races. On the topic, he said, "I would be skeptical that they could do a game in Elsweyr or Black Marsh because those inherently... The main population are lizard people or cat people. That becomes much weirder than a place that's a human population."

Former Bethesda Dev Doesn't Believe Elsweyr or Black Marsh Will Be Elder Scrolls 7's Setting

It should be noted that Kuhlmann is simply speculating based on his own opinion here. It's possible that a future Elder Scrolls game features Elweyr or Black Marsh if Bethesda feels it can strike the right balance, but the reasoning making it more unlikely makes a lot of sense. Realistically, speculation is all fans will have on The Elder Scrolls 7 for at least a decade, and it's always interesting to hear the opinions of those who might have an insight into Bethesda's line of thinking.

...the main population are lizard people or cat people. That becomes much weirder than a place that's a human population.

Even beyond The Elder Scrolls, Bethesda has plenty on its plate. The studio is of course focused on The Elder Scrolls 6, but a recent rumor has suggested that Fallout 5 has been fully greenlit. It's no huge surprise that the studio is looking to the next mainline Fallout game after The Elder Scrolls 6, but it remains to be seen whether both will be in full development at the same time.
