Bethesda has recently lowered the price of two of the best Elder Scrolls games, Oblivion and Morrowind. The Elder Scrolls has exploded in popularity once again with the release of Oblivion Remastered, and it seems that Bethesda wants to capitalize on this success.
Released in 1994 for PC, The Elder Scrolls: Arena was the first mainline game in the series, followed by Daggerfall in 1996. While Daggerfall had a huge procedurally generated world, 2002's Morrowind followed the opposite path, creating an incredibly detailed version of the island of Vvardenfell in Morrowind, in what is widely considered one of the best Elder Scrolls games. In 2006, The Elder Scrolls exploded in popularity with Oblivion, and the franchise grew even more with Skyrim, which has sold over 60 million units.
Why Oblivion Remastered Players Are Flocking Back to Skyrim
Oblivion Remastered has been losing players for a little while now, and it seems that they are going back to the evergreen Skyrim.
Now, Bethesda has decreased the price of the original Xbox’s The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind and the Xbox 360’s The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion from $15 to $10. These do not seem to be temporary discounts, as they appear as full price on the pages of both games, as well as third-party pages like XBDeals. Also, both games have been on sale for as low as $3 or $4 previously, which also gives some weight to the theory that these are not time-limited discounts.

It’s likely that this change could be due to the renewed interest in the franchise due to Oblivion Remastered’s recent launch. Reports indicate that Oblivion Remastered is already outdoing the original, selling more units in April 2025 than the original sold in a whole year.
Despite the huge success of Oblivion Remastered, many gamers are returning to Skyrim. Earlier this week, for example, Skyrim had a higher peak player count than Oblivion Remastered, demonstrating that gamers are still interested in playing the classic titles after experiencing this revamped entry in the popular franchise. These new discounts are likely a great opportunity for fans who want to explore Morrowind or compare the new Oblivion Remastered to the original.
Unfortunately, The Elder Scrolls 6 still does not have a release date. It’s been over 2,500 days since the game was announced on June 10, 2018, and fans are still awaiting more information about the upcoming title. While there are many rumors about TES 6, including that the story will be set in Hammerfell, not much is known about it, so gamers have to wait until Bethesda confirms more details, which will hopefully happen sooner rather than later.
