Nexon has deployed patch 1.2.8 for The First Descendant, but the community is frustrated by some of the changes to free rewards. The First Descendant’s roadmap is packed to the gunwales, with the likes of new agent skins arriving on February 17, and season 2 episode 2 in March. As of right now, however, fans are unhappy with some of the revisions to the previous update’s free rewards.

The MMORPG looter shooter was first released in July 2024, launching as a free-to-play title. The premise of the game sees players assume the role of the titular Descendants, who harbor mysterious powers in a bid to protect humanity against the hostile Vulgus alien race. The First Descendant was rated one of the best co-op games to release in 2024, joining the likes of Helldivers 2, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and the title managed to reach a 10-million-player count during its first week of release.

The new update, succeeding The First Descendant’s helpful hotfix 1.2.7 that rewarded players with the Flutter spawn for completion, changed the reward to a Social Motion ‘Comic Dance’ and 10 Paints. Even though there are more rewards for players to get their hands on now, most of the player base was furious Nexon made this change because they were looking forward to bagging the spawn, and they thought they had until February 26 to achieve the win.

The First Descendant players received more free rewards in August 2024 to celebrate Update 1.5, offering free boosts and XP over the chosen weekend, but the looter shooter community would rather skip the extra rewards this time to gain the previously promised Flutter spawn. One Redditor noted it was “terrible timing,” and another explained the spawn reward was the only reason they had been logging in and doing daily objectives.

The First Descendant season 2 welcomed a host of new features when it dropped back in December 2024, including two new Descendants and an Ultimate Descendant, new customization options like alternate hairstyles, and a loot drop pity system to render farming fair for all. Players will now turn their attention towards the launch of season 2 episode 2, thought to potentially be released on March 13, and fans can look forward to the main story, Battle Pass, Photo Mode, new skins, and more with that drop.
