The First Descendant features multiple boss fights called Void Intercept battles. These fights have a colossus-level Vulgus with various attack patterns and mechanics and are one of the most highly rewarding PvE stages. If you want to unlock any of the end-game Descendants or Ultimate Weapons, you'll have to clear many of these battles.

One of these battles is against the level 66 Colossus the Pyromaniac. This Void Intercept battle is quite difficult, especially when it's your first time clearing this stage because of this boss's attacks that can potentially one-shot you. To avoid getting killed and beating the Pyromaniac in The First Descendant, here's a complete guide for this Void Intercept battle.

How to Beat Pyromaniac in The First Descendant

The Pyromaniac is the sixth Void Intercept boss, and beating him is the only way to progress in the main storyline and unlock the Hagios Region in The First Descendant. Unlike other Void Intercept bosses, the Pyromaniac also has a h igher resistance to most weapon damage and is more vulnerable to skill damage from Descendants.

Pyromaniac Resistances

The Pyromaniac is one of the few Void Intercept bosses that has a lot of literal firepower. There are multiple fire-based attacks in its arsenal, thus having fire resistance is a must to survive in this battle. You'll need at least 2,100 Fire Resistance stats to tank most of the attacks from this boss. Consequently, you'll also have to bring weapons with Cold ATK modifiers to deal additional element damage with your attacks.

Pyromaniac Weak Points

Even though this boss is resistant to weapon damage, you can still target certain parts of its body to deal extra damage, or even stagger the boss occasionally. These weak points, like every other Void Intercept battle, can be spotted using your Descendant's Ecive Scanner. Here's a list of all the weak points of the Pyromaniac colossus:

  • Sensor (Destructible) - Located on its Head
  • Core Cover (Destructible) - Located on its Chest
  • Balancer (Destructible) - Located on its Knees
  • Core (Removable) - Located on its Chest
  • Shoulders (Removable) - Located on its Shoulders

When you're trying to attack weak points, prioritize the Core Cover followed by the Balancer. While the Sensor can be hard to target, destroying the Core Cover allows you to attack the exposed Core on its chest, which can stagger the Pyromaniac.

Pyromaniac Attacks, Explained

Not only is the Pyromaniac Colossus similar to the Executioner in design, but it also shares many of its attacks. While you can dodge most of these attacks with the right timing, some of them are unavoidable, making them tough to counter. Here's a complete list of all the attacks by the Pyromaniac and how you can counter them:

  • Flamethrower: The most common attack of the Pyromaniac is the Flamethrower, which is aimed towards the closest player. This attack doesn't deal burst damage, rather constantly deals fire damage while also inflicting burn debuff. This doesn't break structures, so you can hide behind structures or grapple away to dodge this.
  • Flame Orbs: The Pyromanaic shoots some huge flame orbs from the blasters in its hand. These orbs slowly follow the player and explode on reaching proximity. These orbs can also break strictures, so the best way to avoid this is by grappling as far away as possible. You can get KO-ed by 3-4 Orb hits, even with good resistance.
  • Flame Slash: The Pyromaniac raises the sword in its hands, and cleaves a massive area in front of it, dealing heavy fire damage in a cone-shaped area. Even though this is an AoE attack, it deals a lot of damage and most Descendants caught in it will get KO-ed. If you're close to the boss, it's a guaranteed hit, so it's best to keep your distance at all times.
  • Flame Slam: This is the Pyromaniac's ultimate attack during its enraged state. The boss will jump into the air, and the screen whites out. You'll be teleported into the air, and fall into a red zone where the Pyromaniac slams down from the sky, dealing massive damage. This is a one-hit KO if you don't get out of the red zone in time. The best way to dodge this is by spamming dashes or grappling out as soon as possible.

Apart from these attacks, you'll also have to look out for Flame Chains that regularly spawn across the battlefield. These chains expand in circumference, deal massive damage, and inflict burn debuffs. Try to stay as far away from them as possible.

Pyromaniac Rage Mode

Like every other Void Intercept boss, the Pyromaniac also has an Enraged State, but this one is quite easy to handle if you can act quickly. During this boss fight, multiple mobs called Hummingbirds will spawn behind the Pyromaniac and fill up its rage gauge. You can target them to delay the onset of the Rage Mode.

Once the Pyromaniac enters the Enraged State, it will become immune to all damage, but a red canister can be seen on its back which is vulnerable to damage. Destroying this canister ends the Rage Mode, so the faster you can do that, the better it is for you.

Tips To Beat Pyromaniac

Beating the Pyromaniac in The First Descendant.
Beating the Pyromaniac

Even if you're able to dodge most of the one-hit KO attacks and survive the Rage Mode, beating the Pyromaniac can still be tough because of the boss's massive health pool and resistance. To ensure that you don't get timed out, you'll need the right weapons, modules as well as Descendants. So, here are some tips to beat the Pyromaniac in The First Descendant.

Best Descendants

Here are the top Descendants to use against the Pyromaniac:

  • Bunny (also Ultimate Bunny): Since the Pyromaniac is vulnerable to Descendant skill damage , Bunny is a great choice for dishing out tons of DPS from her ultimate skill. Moreover, her mobility can be used to dodge most of this boss's attacks.
  • Viessa: Not only does Viessa have strong debuffing abilities, but she can also deal Chill-type Skill damage, which is highly effective against the Pyromaniac. Apart from that, she can significantly boost any Chill ATK from weapons as well.

For Descendant Modules, make sure to equip the Fire Antibody and Maximize Fire Resist modules to survive some of the attacks from the boss. You should also equip Chill Mastery modules to boost Chill ATK and deal extra damage.

Best Weapons

When equipping weapons for this battle, you should use 'Pierce' type weapons, such as Sniper Rifles and Hand Cannons with a Chill ATK modifier. You can also add Chill Enhancement and Chill Priority modules to your weapons to increase the Chill ATK modifier even more.
