Among the multiple crafting materials you can farm in The First Descendant, there are some rare items you can't obtain from defeating monsters or clearing missions. While you might need them in the early game, their importance skyrockets once you reach the late stages. One such crafting material is the Pure Energy Residue.
If you want to unlock top-tier Descendants like Ultimate Bunny, Yujin, or even Luna, you'll have to collect tons of Pure Energy Residue. And unlike its counterpart, the Murky Energy Residue, you cannot obtain this material by clearing missions. So, here's how you can farm Pure Energy Residue in The First Descendant.
The First Descendant: How To Farm Murky Energy Residue
Here's how you can farm tons of Murky Energy Residue in The First Descendant.
What Is Pure Energy Residue In The First Descendant?
Pure Energy Residue is an important late-game crafting material in The First Descendant. Unlike other materials that can be gathered by defeating monsters or completing missions, Pure Energy Residue can only be acquired from Encrypted Boxes and Vaults, making it very valuable. It's essential for unlocking high-level Descendants like Ultimate Bunny, Yujin, and Luna, and plays a key role in researching various advanced components.
As you reach the later stages, collecting large amounts of Pure Energy Residue becomes vital to getting your hands on the top tier Descendants. Here's a breakdown of the research recipes that require Pure Energy Residue:

Where To Farm Pure Energy Residue
Pure Energy Residue can only be acquired by decoding certain POIs called Encrypted Storage Boxes and Precise Encrypted Vaults in the Fortress Region of The First Descendant. But finding and decoding these vaults and boxes isn't as easy as it sounds. Not only are they located in concealed locations, but can only be done with ease if you have the Enzo Descendant.
If you don't have Enzo, don't worry, you can still farm Pure Energy Residue, but you'll have to be careful and not mess up the encryption puzzle. Here are all the ways through which you can farm this residue:
- Encrypted Vaults (All Locations, Fortress): Encrypted Vaults are robotic figures that are hidden across every region in The First Descendant. But, only the encrypted vaults in the Fortress Region reward you with Pure Energy Residue for decoding them. You can get up to 15 Pure Energy Residues from the rarest encrypted vaults called Precision Encrypted Vaults. This is best done with Enzo because his passive can make this significantly easier to farm.
- Explosive Debris (Defense Line, Fortress): If you don't have Enzo, or run out of code breakers, then another alternative way of farming Pure Energy Residue is by completing the Explosive Debris Mission. While this doesn't guarantee that you'll get the residue every time, it has the highest chance of dropping this material out of all missions in the Fortress Region.
Every location in Fortress has at least one Encrypted Vault every time you spawn in from Albion, making this the best way of farming this residue. However, you'll need quite a few code breakers to consistently decrypt these vaults.
