While exploring the battlefields of The First Descendant, you may come across Void Fusion Reactors, devices that trigger rewarding combat events. You may also notice that you're not able to start them up. That's because you need to get Void Shards, a type of resource specifically meant for triggering these open-world events.

Void Shards can be a little confusing to get, but thankfully, farming these items isn't hard at all. The element of the character you're using in The First Descendant is going to play a part in this, so make sure to pay attention to who you have available and which map you're playing on.

To get Void Shards, you need to find and destroy Void Fragments, pillar-like structures that you can find all over maps like Kingston in The First Descendant. To destroy Void Fragments, you need to use the skills of a Descendant whose element meets the fragment's requirements.

You can find out what element a fragment is weak to by opening your map and hovering over the Void Fragment's icon. Right above the Main Rewards section of the tooltip is a section that displays the element you need to break the fragment open. In the case of the Void Fragment in Kingston, it's weak to Non-Attribute, which means it can only be destroyed by The First Descendant characters like Ajax.

The First Descendant: How To Level Up Weapons

You don't need to throw away your perfectly-rolled, low-level guns in The First Descendant. Here's how to make them stronger.

Approach the fragment and hit it with an offensive skill to trigger a public event. Waves of enemies will spawn, and you need to eliminate a specified number of enemies in order to remove the invulnerability shield on the Void Fragment. Once the shield is down, hit the fragment again with your skills. Repeat the process until it is destroyed.

The good part about this is that you can join other players who are doing these Void Fragment events, which is great if you're using someone like Bunny who deals Electric ability damage.

How To Use Void Shards

As mentioned, Void Shards are used to start Void Fusion Reactors. However, there are many different kinds of Void Shards, and you need to use the right ones to start a specific reactor.

Open your map and hover your cursor over a Void Fusion Reactor to see what kind of Void Shards it needs. Once you've confirmed its requirements, start looking for Void Fragments that drop the right shards. After you get enough Void Shards, head back to the reactor and interact with it to start the event. Doing so will consume your Void Shards.
