The Great Tumbleweed Purge - TotK Walkthrough
The side quest "The Great Tumbleweed Purge" begins on a cliff above the Oseira Plains in the southwestern corner of the Faron Grasslands. Here, the player will meet a traveler named Barles at coordinates (-1006, -3583, 0219).
Barles believes that it is the responsibility of every traveler to leave places better than they found them, which is excellent advice in both Hyrule and the real world. However, many tumbleweeds continuously overrun the trash-filled chasm, making Barles' task more challenging and frustrating.
To start and complete the quest "The Great Tumbleweed Purge" in Tears of the Kingdom, the player needs to speak with Barles, who asks for assistance cleaning up the chasm by removing the tumbleweeds that have taken over the area.
There are a small handful of effective methods to achieve this. The best and easiest strategy is to make use of the variety of methods Link has to generate and spread fire, which will make quick work of these tangled menaces.
In order to get the most out of the fire consumables Link can use, he should make use of the multiple Zonai Fans scattered amidst the piles of trash. The player can easily locate these devices by searching the rubble using the Ultrahand.
Once a Zonai Fan has been located, the player can pull it out of the ground with Ultrahand and activate it by hitting it with a weapon. The player can then grab a single flaming tumbleweed with the Ultrahand and drag it near other tumbleweeds to set them on fire as well. This easily spreads the fire to burn the remaining tumbleweeds. The player can use the Ultrahand to fuse tumbleweeds into larger clumps that may be easier to handle. However, this method can be excessively time-consuming and is not recommended.
The Ultrahand is also incredibly useful for locating stray tumbleweeds, highlighting any that may have been pushed further away by the fans or the updrafts from the fire. Once the tumbleweeds have burned, the player can explore the wasteland and find pieces of Flint and occasionally cooked consumables.
Link will only successfully complete the quest by clearing the chasm of every last tumbleweed, so it is important to use the Ultrahand to scan the area and check for any stragglers. After clearing all the tumbleweeds, Barles will express surprise and commend the player for handling them all.
As a reward, Barles will grant Link a Royal Shield in appreciation for his efforts in making Hyrule a better, cleaner place. The player can take pride in this accomplishment as they continue their adventure in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
