Spoilers for The Last of Us Season 2, Episode 4 follow below.
Summary
- Fans are disappointed in Ellie's carelessness with a pristine guitar scene in episode 4 of The Last of Us Season 2.
- Episode 4 includes references to the game, such as Dina and Ellie searching for supplies and visiting the Valiant music store.
- Future episodes will dive into the Seraphites and possibly encounter the feared Rat King as Ellie continues searching for Abby.
Now that The Last of Us Season 2 seems to be on a roll when it comes to adapting beloved elements from Naughty Dog's gaming sequel in episode 4, some fans (mostly music enthusiasts) aren't very pleased with Ellie's guitar scene and are calling her out for being far too nonchalant. In HBO's Season 2 of the post-apocalyptic series, viewers were finally introduced to Jeffrey Wright's character Issac as episode 4 throws it back to the Seattle Quarantine Zone in 2018. Not only did fans get another look at FEDRA, but they also saw the ruthless leader of the WLF mercilessly torturing a "scar" for information, perfectly setting up Issac's cruel mindset.
While most fans would agree that, so far, episode 4 has been one of the most game-packed references in The Last of Us Season 2, which has included Easter eggs like Dina and Ellie searching for supplies in Weston's Pharmacy, the pair coming across pride flags outside a queer bookstore and visiting the Valiant music store, one scene in particular has gotten under people's skin so much that a fan even screamed at their TV in frustration upon witnessing Ellie's complete neglect just moments before that beautiful moment between her and Dina.
The Last of Us Fans Think They’ve Spotted a Surprising Easter Egg to One Beloved Walking Dead Game
Eagle-eyed fans of HBO's The Last of Us may have spotted a hidden reference to a Walking Dead game.
Last of Us Fans Call Out Ellie’s Carelessness Upon Finding a Pristine Guitar in Episode 4
Episode 4 of The Last of Us season 2 finally gave fans the moment they were waiting for (no, not that scene) as Ellie and Dina discovered the music store in Seattle. Just like the game, we see Dina playing the drums and Ellie looking through old vinyl records, but just before Ellie serenades Dina with her impressive guitar and singing skills of A-ha's Take On Me, viewers point out how careless Ellie is when she finds a pristine guitar.
"So Ellie finds a pristine guitar that's been in its case since before The Event, tunes it up, plays one song on it, then LEAVES IT OUT TO GET F****D UP and just walks away! F**k it, I'm Team Infected from now on." Stated an enraged poster on HBO's The Last of Us Reddit thread. It seems like the way Ellie treated the new guitar wasn't an isolated occurrence, as another fan of the series said, "Omfg, I don’t even play, but I said the same thing. I’m like, girl, you just found a perfect guitar post-apocalypse, and YOU'RE JUST LEAVING IT OUT!". One viewer revealed in the comment section that their husband is a guitar player and that he couldn't believe his eyes that Ellie just left it out where it would be destroyed by the damp air, saying that he was "screaming at the TV to put it back".
Apparently, the guitar that Ellie found in the abandoned music store is a Martin D-28, which costs around $3500. However, in Ellie's defense, she was likely too excited to think about the aftermath and was just very excited to play it, and of course, impress Dina at the same time. After all, Ellie is pretty impulsive and reckless, whereas Dina is more level-headed and thinks situations out more (thankfully).
As for the rest of The Last of Us' episodes, fans of the franchise and those new to the series will be introduced to spores, a deeper dive into the Seraphites and as Ellie's search for Abby continues into the depths of Seattle, we may even be welcomed by the dreaded Rat King, which will terrify those not familiar with The Last of Us Part 2.
The Last of Us Season 2 streams on Max, with new episodes dropping every Sunday.
The Last of Us Season 2: Tommy Might Rescue Ellie This Time
In HBO’s TV retelling, Ellie and Dina are the first to leave for Seattle, and without any backup. Perhaps this time, Tommy will be rescuing them.
