There is a new teaser trailer for The Last of Us season 2, the highly anticipated new season of the hit HBO adaptation of the hugely popular game. According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO has also shared three posters, and the trailer confirms a time jump for the main characters.
The Last of Us season 2 is set five years in the future and also features new characters. Catherine O'Hara will appear, along with Kaitlyn Dever, who is playing Abby. While fans are still waiting to find out which plotlines will occur in the second season, it's fun to see O'Hara, a beloved actress praised for roles in projects such as Schitt's Creek, Home Alone, and Beetlejuice.
HBO's The Last of Us Could be The Key to Uncharted's Uncertain Future
Naughty Dog, one of Sony’s most revered first-party studios, is renowned for its high-quality games like Uncharted and The Last of Us. However, the studio's limited capacity means it can't focus on all its franchises simultaneously. This shift has led to less attention on the Uncharted series, but the success of The Last of Us HBO series demonstrates how a franchise can thrive without new game releases.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Last Of Us season 2 official description reads:
"After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie’s collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”
Other new characters are Isaac (Jeffrey Wright), Owen (Spencer Lord), Manny (Danny Ramirez), Nora (Tati Gabrielle), Mel (Ariela Barer), Jesse (Young Mazino), and Dina (Isabela Merced).
While many believe The Last of Us episode "Long, Long Time" was the best, season 2 looks like it will be just as great.
The beautifully crafted trailer, which uses the Pearl Jam song "Future Days," shows a brief moment of happiness between Joel and Ellie as they navigate this new, dark, and scary reality. The trailer also teases some violent scenes and moments of uncertainty, along with some freezing cold winter weather.
While the exact release date is uncertain, Deadline reported that The Last of Us season 2 will air in 2025. Casey Bloys, the head of HBO, told the publication that the season would start filming at the beginning of 2024. All nine episodes of The Last of Us season 1 aired from January to March 2023. Due to the summer 2023 WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike, there is likely more of a delay between both seasons than there typically would be. In the meantime, fans are wondering how The Last of Us season 2 will tell Joel's story since some big moments happen in the game. Time will tell how closely the adaptation sticks to the story that fans know and love, but from this teaser trailer, it looks like it will be epic.
