After yet another heartbreaking episode of HBO's The Last of Us Season 2, which saw a traumatized Ellie setting out with her loyal companion Dina, it's about time viewers of the series had some kind of news that cheered them up before things get even darker. As Dina sets off from Jackson to Seattle with Ellie in a bid to hunt down Abby for killing Joel, fans think that her chosen outdoor attire could be a cheeky callback to Clementine's fit in The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series.
Season 2 of The Last of Us has been highly anticipated by players of Naughty Dog's sequel, which the TV show is adapted from. Not only were fans of the franchise champing at the bit of how Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann would adapt Joel's death, but also how Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) would be portrayed, especially since the actor's image looked very different from the character in the game. So far, at least, the changes haven't been too drastic and have served the narrative for the TV show fairly well. New characters like Gail, the only therapist in Jackson, have offered a unique insight into some of the residents, especially Ellie, who she knows was lying through her teeth during the speech at the council meeting. Although fans still haven't had a proper look at Gail's husband and ex-firefly Eugene, it seems as though there might be more to the story surrounding his death and Joel's involvement. However, before episode 4 rolls around and the sadness begins all over again, fans may have spotted a cool Easter egg in The Last of Us' latest episode.
The Last of Us Season 2 Is Taking The Cordyceps Infection To Bolder, More Fascinating Places Than The Games Ever Did
The Cordyceps brain infection is more human than ever, and that makes it dangerous.
Last of Us Fans Think Episode 3 Includes a Hidden Reference to The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series
In The Last of Us Season 2, episode 3, fans of the series watch Dina and Ellie get prepared to leave Jackson as they head off to make Abby and the rest of the WLF (Washington Liberation Front) pay for what they did to Joel. However, some observant viewers have pointed out that Dina is wearing the same rainbow jacket as Clementine does from The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series, believing that someone from production is a fan of the game and has included it in the show's latest episode.
Whether that's true or not, there's no telling until someone from the series steps forward, but it certainly is a really cool callback to an amazing game, which is also set in the post-apocalypse, as well as an iconic character. Posting on Twitter/X, one fan said, "I love how Dina is just gonna rock the Clementine fit moving forward in Seattle," while another stated, "Dina’s wearing Clementine’s jacket", with a bunch of crying emojis. Another fan said, "Omg, what a good reference haha" at the concept of Dina donning Clementine's coat.
Other Easter eggs from The Last of Us Season 2 have so far been the live performance of “Little Sadie” by Crooked Still at Jackson's barn dance, Ellie picking up a bottle to distract a click in episode 2, Ellie's hat from the science and history museum sitting on a dresser in her old room at Joel's house, and many, many more.
The Last of Us Season 2 streams on Max, with new episodes dropping every Sunday.
