Everybody wants to be in Star Wars these days, and it looks like that includes none other than Captain America himself, Anthony Mackie. The Marvel star recently revealed that his massive love of the Star Wars franchise led him to virtually beg for a role in the hit Disney Plus series The Mandalorian. But will he get his wish?

With The Mandalorian season 3 now freshly beginning its run, there's excitement in the air surrounding the entire franchise. During this time, it's easy to see why it's so popular among pretty much everyone, transcending demographics like nobody's business. Cameos like Daniel Craig in The Force Awakens and Danny Trejo in The Book of Boba Fett seem to have set the trend in stone regarding bringing in big names for a bit of fun. So it's no surprise that Mackie wants in, but his endeavours to star in The Mandalorian began earlier than some might expect.

During a recent appearance on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused interview show, Mackie detailed his efforts to get in on The Mandalorian on the ground level. "Yo, when I heard they were doing– this is the one and only time I call my agent, and my manager, and said, 'It's gonna be a problem,' was when I heard they were doing The Mandalorian," he explained before going into how his passion for Star Wars made him a perfect choice. "I was like, 'Yo, now, I ain't gonna make this no conversation. I ain't gonna get on no, I'm star-type sh*t,'I ain't gonna yell at y'all, but we need to– Come on. Come on. I am the best. I have the helmet. I can literally show up in my costume from my house, ready to shoot."

Much of this stemmed from a love of Boba Fett as a character, including the costume Mackie was willing to bring. "You just never knew why, or what, or how. There was something so unique about the way he moved through that universe that no one else could emulate," he continued, speaking in awe of Boba's intimidating presence in the Star Wars films before revealing a funny fact about himself. "Like I always wanted to be Lando. Growing up my nickname was Lando. That's what I made people call me." Anyone who grew up loving Star Wars can probably relate to that feeling.

His love of Lando Calrissian, who was confirmed as pansexual a few years ago, seems to extend to the present as well. "When I go out– you know how when girls go out, they have a fake name they give out at the club. My fake name to this day is Lando," Mackie revealed. Horowitz then got back on topic to ask if his attempts had made any progress in getting him onto a Star Wars set. "Nah," Mackie answered with a touch of unmistakable disappointment. "I was working while they were set to shoot, so I wasn't available."

The possibilities of seeing Mackie in The Mandalorian or any Star Wars project seem enticing. He would probably be a pretty good fit. That's especially considering his well-established experience in over-the-top action roles, thanks to his time as The Falcon and now Captain America. Here's hoping he gets that long-awaited satisfaction sometime soon. It would be an easy transition as well. Not many newly-cast actors come with their own costumes, after all.

The Mandalorian season 3 releases new episodes Wednesdays on Disney Plus.
