The Outer Worlds 2 will hit the market on October 29, Obsidian Entertainment has announced. The open-world RPG will launch for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, in addition to being a day-one addition to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate library.
The follow-up to the critically acclaimed The Outer Worlds has been in development since 2019, entering pre-production around the time when its predecessor launched. Obsidian officially announced the action RPG in June 2021, but it wasn't until December 2024 that The Outer Worlds 2 received its first gameplay trailer.
The Outer Worlds 2 Shows Off Combat and Weapons

Seven months later, The Outer Worlds 2 received another trailer during the 2025 edition of Xbox Games Showcase, which also confirmed its release date: October 29. The three-minute promo video includes a variety of fresh gameplay footage and shows some new locations from the upcoming game.
The Outer Worlds 2 Now Available for Pre-Order
The Xbox Games Showcase 2025 trailer marked the official start of The Outer Worlds 2 pre-orders, which are now available via Steam. Microsoft and PlayStation Store still aren't accepting pre-purchases as of this writing, circa 1:35pm ET, but they are expected to do so shortly. The Outer Worlds 2 is priced at $79.99, with its Premium Edition retailing for an extra $20. As is usually the case with day-one Xbox Game Pass releases, subscribers can access the Premium Edition by paying only the price difference between it and the standard version. This upgrade does not require purchasing the base game, provided the user remains subscribed to Xbox Game Pass.
Obsidian confirmed that The Outer Worlds 2 will receive at least two story DLCs, both included in the Premium Edition. While no release dates have been announced, the game’s late October launch suggests that the expansions will not arrive before 2026. The Premium Edition also includes a Corporate Appreciation Prize Pack, a digital art book, and five days' worth of early access. A four-item bundle called Commander Zane’s Battle Pack is the confirmed pre-order bonus.
The Outer Worlds 2 is the first confirmed Xbox Game Pass release for October 2025. Looking at the more immediate future, Microsoft's subscription service is set to receive several high-profile day-one releases, including Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine Master Crafted Edition, which is scheduled to drop on June 10. The Alters is then set to arrive on June 13, followed by Lost in Random: The Eternal Die and FBC: Firebreak on June 17.
