The southern substation in Paradise Island is in disrepair, and if you want to get a great early-game gun in The Outer Worlds 2, you'll want to find a way to fix it. Repairing the substation requires a specific item, but as simple as it seems, players will need to have built their Outer Worlds 2 character a specific way if they want to get the substation's repair kit.

These beginner tips for Outer Worlds 2 will help both new and returning fans confidently tackle the challenges of the Arcadian system.
How to Get The Southern Substation Repair Kit in The Outer Worlds 2
The good news is that the Substation Repair Kit in The Outer Worlds 2 is found inside the main substation building itself. This is the same building that has the rooftop panel that you need to repair. The doors that lead inside are sealed, though, and to get inside, you need to open up the vent grate outside of the building. The kit is on a table.
The grate is right next to an automech cabinet, and to open it, you need to have either Sneak 2 or the Nimble trait. While you can't do much about the latter if you didn't take it as one of your starting traits, you can still level up your Sneak skill by doing quests around Paradise Island. However, if you took the Dumb flaw and locked yourself out of leveling Sneak, then you're out of luck.
Don't forget that you can put two points into a low-level skill when you level up. If you have Sneak 0, you can easily get Sneak 2 after leveling up once.
How to Repair the Southern Substation in The Outer Worlds 2
Now that you have the Substation Repair Kit, go back to the panel on the rooftop and use it there. Once the repair animation is finished, head back down to find the main substation building's door unsealed. Head inside, and charge the Substation Fuse in the charging station of the main room (the one where the janitor bot is).
Take the Charged Substation Fuse and insert it into the machine next to the auxilliary building inside the substation compound. Doing so will open the door to that building, revealing a Corrosive Shock Machine Gun as well as some other assorted pieces of loot inside.
The Corrosive Shock Machine Gun is great when fighting factions in The Outer Worlds 2 that use automechs and heavy armor. However, most creature-type targets are immune to this damage type. Bringing this along with you is still a good idea, though, as you can always swap between your weapons and use whatever the situation calls for the most.
