After finding a letter from his father, Nick sneaks into the chief's office to find new evidence about his father. This story goes a long way, revealing a corruption inside the precinct that even Cordell's father was a part of. Now, the final step to reveal all about Cordell's father is to open the safebox at the chief's office, but it requires a password.

The Safebox Code At The Chief's Office In The Precinct

If you need a hint to figure it out yourself, there is a newspaper in the chief's room, reading which will give you a big hint to solve this puzzle. However, to those who just want the answer, the code is 0530. This is the date (month and day) that newspapers published Cordell's death, which is what Chief Jackson refers to as the day that will haunt him forever.

After opening the safebox, Nick grabs the case that belongs to August Gang and their connection with the precinct. According to Chief Jackson, the precinct decided to cooperate with the August Gang back in the day to arrest some of the other rival gangs and seize their equipment, like weapons and ammo. The decision was made to compensate the police station's small budget in equipping the officers, but Chief Cordell also agreed to give a share to August Gang in return for their cooperation.

The ties between the police and the August Gang expanded after that, causing more problems for Chief Cordell until he decided to report everything to the DA. When Chief Jackson learned about it, he reported it to the head of the August Gang, who then killed Chief Cordell to prevent him from revealing the truth.

The case that Nick collects from Jackson's office includes a series of images showing how the weapon trade between the August Gang and the precinct. After opening the case, there is only one mission left, where the player must decide what to do with the evidence. While the story will end differently depending on the player's choice, it will not have any consequences in the endgame.

Once the campaign wraps up, you return to your job in the office, where you can pick shifts again and deal with the criminals. It's worth noting that once players reach Police Officer 20 in the ranks, no more promotions will be available. However, there are still many collectibles in Averno City, along with side activities that are worth exploring.
