The Sandman season 1 arrived on Netflix in August 2022, and fans have waited a long time to see the next part of the story. In 2024, viewers learned about three new characters, and now there is a teaser along with two release dates for The Sandman season 2.

The Sandman episodes 1 through 10 came out on Netflix on August 5th, 2022, and episode 11, called "Dream of a Thousand Cats" and "Calliope" was released on August 19th, 2022. The series stars Tom Sturridge as Lord Morpheus/Dream, and while some changes were made from the comic book by Neil Gaiman, many felt it was a faithful adaptation. The Sandman season 1 was a big hit, and the series has an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes to reflect that. Now that the teaser for The Sandman season 2 has been released, fans have an idea of what to expect from the final season.

The Sandman Star Confirms Return of Fan Favorite Character In Season 2

One of The Sandman's breakout stars has confirmed they will return for season 2 of the Netflix series.

The Sandman Season 2 Teaser Is Here & This Is When It Will Be Released

The Sandman season 2

The teaser for The Sandman season 2 depicts Dream seeing the Endless siblings again, including The Prodigal (Barry Sloane), Delirium (Esme Creed-Miles), and Destiny (Adrian Lester). Fans were curious about who would play characters such as Delirium, and if the teaser is any indication, this will be another solid and well-crafted season.

The Sandman season 2 logline explains:

"After a fateful reunion with his family, Dream of the Endless (Tom Sturridge) must face one impossible decision after another as he attempts to save himself, his kingdom, and the waking world from the epic fallout of his past misdeeds."

The logline continues:

"To make amends, Dream must confront longtime friends and foes, gods, monsters, and mortals. But the path to forgiveness is full of unexpected twists and turns, and true absolution may cost Dream everything.”

Variety reported that The Sandman season 2 will be released on Netflix in two parts. Fans will want to know that episodes 1 through 6 will come out on July 3rd, 2025, followed by five episodes on July 24th, 2025. Netflix used this release strategy for Stranger Things season 4, which came out in May 2022 and July 2022. Many wonder if Stranger Things season 5 will be split into two parts as well.

As Variety also reported in January 2025, Netflix decided that The Sandman season 2 would be the last one. While fans are sad not to see more than two seasons of the comic adaptation, it looks like the showrunner Allen Heinberg put a lot of thought, care, and attention into these last episodes. It's a grand story with many villains and compelling characters, and based on the teaser, the same thing seems to be true of the second season. In an interview with Netflix.com/tudum, Heinberg shared that the same crew from season 1 came back for season 2, which meant they could "build on everything we learned and to try to raise our game on every front." He continued that the VFX, props, costumes, and sets are based on what's in The Sandman comics and Dream's new palace is front and center in season 2.

The Sandman season 2 has new cast members such as Douglas Booth and Ann Skelly as royal emissaries Cluracan and Nuala along with several god characters. Laurence O’Fuarain plays storm god Thor, Clive Russell plays Thor's father Odin, and Freddie Fox plays the god of chaos Loki, who is also Odin's brother. Ruairi O’Connor plays Dream's child Orpheus, Steve Coogan voices the character Barnabas, and Jack Gleeson portrays a hobgoblin named Puck.

While fans look forward to other 2025 Netflix releases such as Wednesday season 2 and Stranger Things season 5, The Sandman season 2 looks to be as magical and unique as the first season.
