The Sims 4 is a life sim that allows its players to concoct and shape their very own story. When it comes to the Sims franchise, there is very little players can't do, and with The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs expansion pack, it's possible to do even more.
Not only will those who acquire DLC be able to open their own Veterinary Clinic, but they will also get the chance to explore a new world and adopt their very own pet. There are three ways for players to get a cat or a dog in The Sims 4, and though the process is pretty straightforward, it can be a little confusing at first.
How To Create A Pet In The Sims 4
Those who wish to care for a specific type of cat or dog can get one through the character creation menu by selecting the "Add a Sim" icon in the bottom left corner of the screen and then choosing the "Add a Pet" option.
From here, players can choose between creating a cat, a dog, or a mixed breed. Choosing to create a cat or dog will result in a randomized feline or canine being added to the family. Players can then customize their soon-to-be pet's physical attributes as well as the animal's name, age, gender, pronouns, voice, relationships, and traits.
Choosing to create a mixed breed allows for even more customization; when the option is selected, players will be given the chance to decide what animals were bred to create their pet, which can have a pretty big effect on how they look and behave. If players are unsatisfied with their mixed breed after its creation, they can alter its traits and appearance before beginning or returning to the game.
If players wish to add a pet to their existing world, they can do so by clicking the "Manage World" option in the pause menu, selecting their lot, and clicking "Manage Household."
How To Adopt A Pet In The Sims 4
Players hoping to adopt a cat or a dog more naturally can do so by interacting with a computer, clicking on the "Household" option, and selecting "Adopt." This can also be done through the phone by selecting "Home" and choosing the "Call Adoption Agency" option.
After choosing what animal the player wants to adopt, they will then be given the chance to choose from an array of different pets. Once the player settles on a pet they like, an Adoption Agent will arrive at their property and deliver the new pet directly to the Sim who ordered it. Adopting a pet via this method costs 200 Simoleons, but it's a small price to pay for such a big addition to one's home.
It is also possible to adopt the stray animals wandering around the world by forming a friendship with them. To do this, players should click on the stray they wish to adopt and have their Sim interact with it until they become friends. Once the Sim is friends with the stray, the option to adopt the creature will become available.
Owning a pet in The Sims 4 is a pretty big responsibility. Once players adopt one, they should train it and care for it as often as possible.
The Sims 4 is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
