For the most part, Sims 4 players can design their Sims and the world they reside in quite freely, and the game only seems to be increasing the freedom it gives its players with each passing year. Creative freedom might be one of the strongest features in the franchise, and with the ability to customize a Sim's pronouns being added to the base game, it only seems to be getting stronger.

To change a Sim's pronouns in The Sims 4, players must open the character creation menu, where they have the option to customize their Sim and add Sims to their household. Players will automatically open the character creation menu upon beginning a new game in a new world, but those who wish to customize the pronouns of their currently existing Sim will need to do so by selecting the "Manage Household" option in the Manage World screen.

Upon entering the character creation menu, players should look to the top left-hand corner of the screen, where the diamond shaped-symbol entitled "Identity" can be seen. Interacting with this symbol will cause a dropdown menu to appear, where the player can customize a variety of their Sim's traits and mannerisms.

At the very top of the screen, the option to rename one's current Sim can be seen and interacted with. Just right of the two text fields, a dropdown menu entitled "Pronouns" can be selected to reveal a list of pronouns for players to choose from and apply to the Sim they are editing.

Selecting the Pronouns dropdown menu reveals four pronoun options for players to choose from: They/Them, She/Her, He/Him, and Custom Pronouns. Choosing any of the first three will automatically apply those pronouns to the player's Sim, but selecting the "Custom Pronouns" option will allow players to administer their own unique pronouns instead.

In the Custom Pronouns menu, players can choose to customize their subjective, objective, possessive dependent, possessive independent, and reflexive pronouns to better suit their Sim's gender identity. Once players are happy with the pronouns they have chosen, they are free to begin the game and see how the in-game text of The Sims 4 incorporates the new pronouns into the gameplay.

If players wish to change the pronouns they chose for their Sim, they can do so at any time by returning to the character creation menu and picking something else from the Pronouns menu.

The Sims 4 is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
