However, that doesn't have to be the case; players can actually get their Sims' imaginary friends to stay in the picture forever by turning them into real Sims.

When a child Sim turns into a teenager, they will be able to interact with their imaginary friend doll and choose the Offer to Make Real option, which will turn them into a real Sim and add them to their household (or Manage Households if the current household is full). When Sims turn an imaginary friend into a real Sim, they will receive the Non-Fictitous Friend sentiment towards their former doll.

How to Get Rid of Imaginary Friends in The Sims 4

What Happens When You Say Goodbye Forever to An Imaginary Friend in The Sims 4

Players can get rid of their imaginary friends for good as well. This can be done as a child or as an older Sim. To get rid of an imaginary friend in The Sims 4, players must interact with them and select the Say Goodbye Forever interaction. If they're in their doll-form, they will have to select this option once again to confirm it. Then, the two will hug and share an endearing moment.

When Sims say goodbye forever to an imaginary friend, they will remain in their Relationship panel. While the friend does not make the Sim feel guilty at the moment of goodbye, it is still an inevitability. The Sim will receive the Fictitous Friend No More guilty sentiment towards their doll. However, if they keep the doll around, they can use the Seek Comfort from an Old Friend interaction whenever they experience negative moodlets.
