The Sims 4: Cottage Living introduces new farming features, adorable farm animals, pesky foxes, and more to the long-running franchise. Farm animals are a great source of money and produce, so owning a few is an excellent way for Sims to make money at home, rather than the typical 9-5 gig.

Roosters, Hens, and Chicks are all included in the DLC as purchasable animals in Build/Buy mode. Players can save money and raise their own by hatching chicken eggs if they don't want to keep buying more. However, chicken eggs don't just hatch by themselves, and players might miss their chance if they wait too long. So, here's how to hatch chicken eggs in The Sims 4.

How to Hatch Chicken Eggs in The Sims 4

The Sims 4 How to hatch chicken eggs

The Sims 4 includes Gardening as a skill in its Base Game, but it wasn't until Cottage Living that it got a more robust farming system. Players can fully immerse their farmer Sims by buying land and raising animals, including chickens. TS4 chickens are treated as pets, so players don't raise them for poultry, but rather to collect their eggs. Hens produce eggs once a day, and players retrieve them by clicking on the chicken coop and picking "Collect Eggs" from the interaction menu.

Eggs can be sold, cooked, or hatched— if they are Hatchable, that is. Hatchable eggs are labeled, so players can easily tell the difference between them and unfertilized eggs.

Players can only get Hatchable eggs if they own at least one pair of Roosters and Hens.

There are three different egg types with hatchable variations: Gold, Obsidian, and Normal. Do the following to hatch chicken eggs in The Sims 4:

  • Click on a Hatchable egg from the Sim who collected their inventory
  • Select "Incubate in Coop" from the menu to place the egg in the coop.
  • Wait the required incubation time, about 2 days.
  • When it's ready to hatch, players will get a notification
  • Click on the egg inside the chicken coop.
  • Select "Hatch Egg" and enjoy the adorable animation.

Players can then name and interact with their new chick. Chickens age like other pets, but players can turn this feature off if they don't want Grim to come for their beloved birds. For the total farming experience, the Horse Ranch DLC adds goats, lambs, and horses to the mix. If raising that many animals gets overwhelming, Sims can hire a Ranch Hand to help out.

How to Use Cheats to Get Hatchable Chicken Eggs in The Sims 4

The Sims 4 cheat for eggs

Chickens will only produce eggs if they are well-fed and their coops are kept clean and sanitary. Hatchable eggs are also spawned at random, so getting some can take time. Players using the Simple Living Lot Challenge may start to rely on their farm animals for sustenance.

How to Turn On Cheats

If they want chicken eggs quickly, players can use cheats to instantly spawn Hatchable eggs that need to be incubated or are ready to hatch. To turn on cheats, pull up the command console by entering the following:

  • PC: Ctrl + Shift + C
  • Mac: Command + Shift + C
  • Xbox/PlayStation: all four shoulder buttons

Then type "testingcheats on" and press Enter (or A/X for console), and it will confirm that cheats are enabled. Players can Shift-click a chicken coop and create normal eggs, Hatchable eggs, and eggs ready to hatch immediately.
