Save file corruption in The Sims 4 is still a problem for players, potentially locking them out of worlds they've been creating for years, and publisher EA is letting fans know that it is still dedicated to weeding out these problems and eliminating them. These problems seem mainly centered around For Rent, an expansion for The Sims 4 that was released more than a year and a half ago, but a recent update seems to have caused a new slew of problems as well.
The Sims 4's For Rent expansion was originally released in December 2023. Centered around the theme of rental properties, For Rent lets players set up and manage apartments, duplexes, and town homes, providing an extra degree of realism for players who want to experience the joys and challenges of communal living, like potluck dinners and death from exposure to toxic mold.

The Sims 4 Is Still Working on For Rent's Save File Corruption Issues
A new report from EA states that the development team has already fixed 29 known issues with For Rent, but there are still 37 others that need to be addressed. Of these 37 issues, 26 are currently under investigation, and the developers are relying on the community to provide more information on the remaining 11. Following up on a similar report on For Rent save file corruption that EA issued in February, corruption continues to be the most serious issue, with players reporting that entire lots have disappeared when many rental units are present in a world, and an endless white screen has appeared when loading the game on PlayStation consoles. Maxis has issued a fix for the former issue but is waiting on player responses to ensure it is fully resolved, and it is still awaiting more feedback before tackling the latter issue.
More recently, some players have reported additional save file problems that have popped up following the release of The Sims 4's August 19 update. Known issues related to this bug are centered around lots refusing to load, or specific items being missing or unusable after lots have loaded. Based on the report from EA, many of these complaints have been centered around lots that were downloaded from the Gallery. This problem is often accompanied by a crash or a never-ending loading or all-white screen, and sometimes a Load Error 800/801 message, though the developers have been unable to replicate this error code.
EA plans to continue to investigate these issues and report on them, and the latest report states that the newest batch of problems could still be tied to For Rent, though nothing has been confirmed yet. It also indicates that players should be careful when using Sims 4 mods and custom content, as these can negatively affect gameplay. Since the developers have been unsuccessful at replicating all the reported problems, they are relying on the community for more feedback and have set up a forum page where players can report save file issues.
