Unfortunately, players have been having issues with save file corruption in The Sims 4 since the end of 2023, causing considerable frustration for impacted players.

The Sims 4 Addresses Save Corruption Bug

In a new post, EA has acknowledged that the Sims 4 save file corruption that began with the release of For Rent in 2023 is still being investigated. The dev team says that after attempting to reproduce the issue, the team has determined that the game's scratch files and lot data are likely the culprit. As EA explains, scratch files are temporary files the game draws upon, and they may be getting deleted, preventing the game from working properly. Their efforts have also indicated that some kinds of lots, especially "super-stuffed" ones, may be leading to endless loading screens.

The team will be continuing to investigate this issue, and in the meantime, has removed the Residential Rental Unit Sims 4 cheat "bb.increaserentalunitcap" as a "preventative step" while they continue working on developing a fix. Players are also encouraged to reach out regarding any further issues they're experiencing, so the team can add those to the list of things to check. However, some players are already expressing frustration with the latest update, pointing out that problems with save files have been going on for over a year, preventing some users from playing the For Rent expansion that they purchased.

Other concerns voiced by the community include worries that the sheer amount of official content available for the game could be a problem. Some have been frustrated that The Sims 4 continues to add new content when the game is already experiencing problems like these, arguing that it could be making matters worse. Thankfully, the team seems to be taking the matter seriously, even if it's taking time to resolve it. However, there's nothing players can do right now except continue to wait for EA to find a solution.
