The Sims has had a strong start to the year, as EA's long-running life sim franchise has now hit an impressive milestone, hitting 25 years in the industry. Such impressive longevity is hard to achieve in gaming, but The Sims has managed to persevere, thanks to its fun approach to the genre.
Over the years, The Sims has allowed players to dive into custom digital lives, and it's now one of the most recognizable gaming brands around, especially in its specific genre. The legacy of The Sims now spans a quarter of a century, and so far, the franchise has been pulling out all the stops to celebrate. From celebrity-filled events to fresh in-game content, The Sims may still have more in store for players waiting on the horizon.

Three new kits are coming out for The Sims 4 on May 1, and should bring some much-needed features that many Simmers have been waiting for.
2025 is Set to Be a Major Year For The Sims Franchise

- 25-hour live-stream

This is just the tip of the iceberg, too. Within these celebrations lies a treasure trove of great 25th anniversary content that has potentially set the tone for the franchise for the rest of the year. The 25-hour live-stream back in February featured huge stars like Doja Cat and Trixie Mattel & Katya, while longtime fans can now finally play The Sims and The Sims 2 on a modern PC.
EA and The Sims really went all out with their events, and even though the official anniversary itself has come and gone, that doesn't mean The Sims is done bringing forth more content. On top of all the extra additions the 25th anniversary has introduced, it's recently been revealed that The Sims is getting its own board game, too. Fans of both board games and the life sim genre can experience The Sims in a brand-new light when the game releases later this year.
The Sims board game is being made in partnership with Goliath Games. As of now, there isn't a release date set in stone, but the creators are eyeing a fall 2025 launch.
The Next Chapter of The Sims Could Still Be Waiting in the Wings
In The Sims community, Project Rene is no secret. Originally announced at the Behind The Sims Summit in 2022, this "next generation Sims game" has been long-awaited. It isn't exactly the fifth mainline Sims, though. Instead, Project Rene has been teased as a more multiplayer-focused iteration of the franchise, but single-player is still confirmed to be present.
As of now, it's unclear if there are plans to finally reveal Project Rene's official title or not, but with 2025 being such an important milestone for the franchise, it would be the perfect opportunity to finally showcase what the project has in store and how it differs from The Sims 4.
The Sims 4 has been going strong since 2014.
The Sims' further 2025 plans are being kept under wraps, but considering the huge offering of content that has been unveiled so far this year, there may be more planned for the future. This is merely speculation, of course, but whatever The Sims has to offer next will hopefully pave the way for 25 more years of fun.
