Initially, The Thaumaturge does not allow players to adjust the time of day. This makes sense during the prologue, which is a short and largely self-contained investigation that takes place over the course of a single day. After leaving the Prologue and making their way to Warsaw, however, this changes. After the Funeral that serves as Act 1's initial main quest, players will gain the ability to change the time of day.

As players explore and investigate Warsaw in The Thaumaturge, they will occasionally come across missions that can only be progressed at certain times of day. Luckily, players can change the time of day freely at any point after the prologue. This guide will explain how to do that.

Fool's Theory's upcoming CRPG The Thaumaturge features some helpful demonic presences not unlike Atlus' Persona series.

How to Pass Time

The Thaumaturge_Pass Time_Options

Players can pass time by heading for a "Place of Respite." These benches and rest spots are marked on the map with a clock icon. Click on the "Wait" icon that appears when Wiktor is near such a rest spot to pass time. When waiting at a Place of Respite, players can also choose to speak to Upyr, which often leads to an amusing and one-sided exchange between Wiktor and his first Salutor. These conversations sometimes provide further characterization of Wiktor, insight into his history, or just a much-needed moment of levity.

Players can choose to wait until Morning, Noon, Afternoon, or Night. The current time will always be absent from the available options. Passing time is important for some quests since certain important events can only occur at certain times of day. For example, certain buildings and locations might simply not be open if Wiktor arrives too early or too late in the day, and certain characters might be busy during the day and only available when it's late.

Players will first have access to Places of Respite after arriving in Warsaw, once they've completed the quest "The Mermaid City's Son" and attended the funeral of Stanislaw Szulski, Wiktor's father. Up until this point, Act 1 has players moving through the city on a fairly linear path, and this marks the moment that the game opens up and lets players freely explore Warsaw. Players will have plenty of leads to follow as they investigate the Black Grimoire, so knowing how to manually change the time of day will be helpful.
