On AMC's The Walking Dead, fans have witnessed zombies, otherwise known as 'walkers', munching down on various types of meats, from mice and dogs to humans and horses, but the creator of the franchise has revealed a disgusting fact about their diet that many fans will lose their lunch over and may never look at them the same way again.

Three years after its finale, The Walking Dead remains a firm fixture in many zombie-loving viewers' hearts, even though some fans feel like the series wasn't as strong towards its latter seasons. However, no one can take away the fact that its walkers were a truly terrifying feature, at least at the start of the series. Hearing their groans and shuffling feet as they grew closer to one of the show's beloved characters sent viewers' blood pressure through the roof, and who could forget that moment when Glenn fell off the dumpster into a horde of them and everyone thought he was a goner or when Glenn tried to pull a bloated walker from a well and its insides splattered everywhere. Although it sure seems like Glenn was at the heart of many crazy walker encounters, thankfully, he didn't end up as lunch for any of them. Speaking of, for any fans that might be about to eat something while reading this, trust me, wait until after you've read this.

Robert Kirkman Reveals That Zombies in The Walking Dead Are “Always Pooping”

the walking dead zombies

As highlighted by ScreenRant, the creator of the franchise, Robert Kirkman, has revealed in The Walking Dead #111 comic what happens after a walker eats, specifically, where it all goes. The question came from a fan who asked what happens once a zombie is full from its meal, and if they can actually digest their food. It's certainly a brilliant question, as many fans would have pondered the same thing since they are almost constantly stuffing their faces with some kind of flesh. Kirkman disclosed that zombies are very likely "always pooping", which makes their appearance even worse because, let's face it, they don't go to the bathroom nor do they have the ability to change their underwear, so basically, they are just walking around with poopy pants all the time.

"I like to think they're always pooping... Undigested bits of flesh... It just passes right through. Fun!"

Not only is it a terrifying thought to be close to a walker who wants to make your flesh their dinner, but now there's the aspect of what a victim would smell as they inch closer and the realization that not only does their declaying, rotten skin smell of death, but so does all the poop they've been walking around with for days, weeks or years. I did warn readers not to eat anything while reading this, right? I don't think any Walking Dead fan will ever look at a zombie the same way ever again. Maybe they need to invent long-lasting, post-apocalyptic diapers for zombies.

For fans who haven't been put off the franchise's spin-offs by thinking about zombies' underpants now, The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 will be released on May 4, 2025, with Daryl Dixon season 3 arriving sometime in the autumn of this year.
