  • Jeffrey's introduction could lead to a major reunion of original characters, potentially being the key to the franchise's end.

The Walking Dead franchise has covered a lot of ground since the original series debuted in 2010. Whether it was the 11-season run that The Walking Dead had or the various spinoff shows that have been released ever since, there has been no shortage of impressive storylines.

Many have been taken directly from The Walking Dead comics, utilizing the source material to bring it to life. Meanwhile, others have been created specifically for the television series, entertaining fans in the process. However, there is one major storyline that remains available for this franchise, and currently, the opportunity exists to tell it.

The Walking Dead needs to push towards a reunion of its main characters before the buzz finally disappears.

The Walking Dead Should Introduce Rick Grimes’ Brother

Jeffrey Grimes Survives In The Comics

Throughout the history of The Walking Dead, the showrunners have tackled the majority of the biggest storylines and twists that have been created. The shows have introduced the most important characters possible in a bid to ensure the franchise has high stakes and people that fans can care about. However, there is one major character who has yet to appear, and that is Jeffrey Grimes. He’s someone who doesn’t get talked about in the television series, but he is the brother of Rick Grimes, which instantly makes him a crucial character. Rick is seen as the ultimate leader of The Walking Dead franchise, being the focal point for the vast majority of the original series; therefore, there would be a genuine interest in bringing Jeffrey into this world.

It has arguably taken too long to happen because there are numerous obvious storylines that can be explored with his character. Seeing the differences between him and Rick would be entertaining, and learning how he managed to survive for so long would open up The Walking Dead franchise to a plethora of new ideas and characters. At this stage, the iconic horror franchise is in need of delivering something fresh, innovative, and shocking, and revealing that Rick’s brother has been alive this entire time and they haven’t known would do that. It’s the type of idea that is big enough to entice lapsed fans back to watch the product, and that’s exactly what The Walking Dead bosses will want right now.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’s Final Season Should Deliver This Storyline

The Show Being Set In Europe Opens Up This Possibility

Carol (Melissa McBride) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon

Many fans might’ve wondered where Jeffrey has been this entire time, but in the comics, he ends up in Europe when he fights for his own survival. That is where he makes his life, as he battles different challenges from Rick and his gang of friends. However, that’s where The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon could end up playing a huge role, as it is set in Europe. The show was recently renewed for a fourth and final season, and given that it will be ending, the series needs to set up some teasers for the future if people want The Walking Dead to return. Norman Reedus teased that the show has always been planned to end in a specific manner, and having him discover Jeffrey would be the ideal way to make that happen. That would generate significant momentum behind the show due to the overall connection it would provide, while also ending The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon with a bang.

Jeffrey Grimes Would Set Up A Huge Future Reunion In The Walking Dead

This Could Be How The Franchise Ends

RICK GRIMES 03

While bringing back Jeffrey would be an exciting addition to The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, seeing him with Daryl and Carol is ultimately not what people want to see. If he’s going to appear, then audiences are instantly going to want Jeffrey to reunite with his brother, Rick. Currently, Andrew Lincoln isn’t involved in any active spinoffs; therefore, if a reunion is to happen, a new show would need to be announced, which fans are eager to see. There’s an audience eagerly awaiting a fully-fledged reunion series of The Walking Dead that reunites all the existing characters from the initial series, and Jeffrey's survival could be one way to achieve this.

The Walking Dead as a franchise cannot exist forever, as people will eventually lose interest, as there are only so many zombie-killing moments audiences want to watch. Deciding to truly end The Walking Dead universe would be a significant moment, but it needs to be done in a monumental way to honor the show's immense popularity over the years. Bringing all of the original Walking Dead characters who are alive back together would certainly achieve that. Whether it’s a movie or one more season of the original show, this is the type of storyline that audiences would buy into, and there’s no reason why Jeffrey can’t be the start of that. Him being alive would give Daryl even more of a reason to reunite with Rick, taking them back to the United States of America. The core characters have always been more interesting to see together, and if Jeffrey is what’s needed to make that happen, then The Walking Dead needs him to debut.
