Summary
- Morgan Jones won't be returning to The Walking Dead universe anytime soon.
- Lennie James hinted at the end of his time within the franchise.
- Morgan's future remains uncertain due to his unique character evolution and potential show locations.
The Walking Dead has featured many iconic characters over the years, including Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, Michonne, and Carol Peletier, many of whom have returned to appear in various spin-off shows. Another notable figure is Morgan Jones, who was featured in The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead; however, fans shouldn’t expect to see him return to this world anytime soon.
Even though shows based around The Walking Dead franchise continue to be released, with The Walking Dead: Dead City’s second season coming out earlier this year, that doesn’t mean that Morgan will be making a return anytime soon. In fact, the latest update points to the complete opposite.
August 19 Will Be A Terrifying Day For The Walking Dead Fans
The Walking Dead fans are set for a terrifying day on August 19, as major news has been revealed about the franchise.
Morgan, played by Lennie James, is one of the few original characters who remains alive in this world, having been introduced in the first episode of the entire series. While it took until the sixth season for him to become a regular part of the show, Morgan ended up being a significant character before eventually becoming one of the leads in Fear the Walking Dead. However, James provided a disappointing update about his future in the franchise when speaking to ScreenRant.
"I haven't heard anything. That's the truth of the situation. But also, the truth of the situation is, if I had heard anything, I wouldn't tell you. But, in all honesty, I haven't heard anything. I do get asked that question on a regular basis, but as things stand, as of today, I've heard nothing."
When The Walking Dead fans last saw Morgan, he was returning to Alexandria in an attempt to reunite with his old friends, which seemed to hint at a major storyline for him and some of the other original characters. The Ones Who Live would potentially have been the spinoff show for that to happen, with Rick and Michonne being part of that, but sadly, it never materialized, and there has been a lack of clarity in terms of Morgan’s storyline ever since, which many fans would like to see play out due to how popular the character was.
Morgan was unique within the world of The Walking Dead in that his personality underwent a drastic transformation, from being someone who sought vengeance and was one of the most effective killers to becoming someone who would always try to spare a life when possible . It made him a complex character that the writers were able to take in different directions, which was both a positive and a negative at times throughout his appearances in the franchise.
Given that Morgan hasn’t been killed within The Walking Dead universe, there is always going to be the possibility of him showing up again in a future show, for as long as they keep being made. However, the locations of the latest spin-offs might not make it possible for him to return. Dead City is currently set in New York, with Maggie and Negan battling for survival in a different environment. Meanwhile, Daryl and Carol were last seen in Europe, where they reunited, and it could be a bit of a stretch to have Morgan follow them all the way over there, although he did have a strong connection with Carol in The Walking Dead. However, even though James’ comments lean toward his time in The Walking Dead being over, a return remains a possibility, and fans will likely ask about it.
