The Walking Dead TV series boss Scott M. Gimple seemingly has big plans when it comes to breathing new life into one of the franchise's most popular spin-offs and believes that fans would be eager to see more of the show as well. The post-apocalyptic series ran from 2010 to 2022 and, since The Walking Dead didn't receive a season 12 to tie up those tatty loose ends, something that many fans had requested, it instead ventured off into many spin-offs.

While The Ones Who Live only lasted for one season, Dead City and Daryl Dixon proved to be popular within The Walking Dead's fandom and have since been greenlit for two seasons. The franchise's original spin-off, Fear The Walking Dead, finished up its narrative in November 2023, while The Walking Dead: World Beyond was only earmarked for a two-season run. However, TV's most famous and popular zombie franchise is getting bigger with four The Walking Dead projects in the pipeline, which shows AMC's commitment to its world and the potential it has to keep on going for quite a few years yet. Previously, showrunner Scott Gimple teased that Rick and Michonne could make a comeback in The Ones Who Live for a season 2, but there is one other spin-off on Gimple's mind.

Tales of The Walking Dead Zombies Get A New Scientific Name

Talking with The Direct, The Walking Dead's chief creative officer, Scott M. Gimple, disclosed that he would love to open up the world of the spin-off Tales of the Walking Dead when asked whether more episodes of the anthology series could be in the future. Gimple, however, revealed that even though he doesn't have "imminent plans" for the series to make a return, he thinks that fans would appreciate seeing "more from the characters" than what was shown before. He also stated that due to every episode honing in on a different group of survivors, it would prove to be less tricky to flesh out if it was to be developed.

"I’m desperate to do more of those. We don't have imminent plans to do it, but I'm constantly, constantly, constantly bringing it up. It's a more challenging show because of the variety because you're starting at zero every episode. So that's one thing that's sort of slowing it down a little bit. But I always keep it in the mix as a possibility. We can only put out so many Walking Dead shows, Walking Dead hours a year. But to me, I think that's a layup."

"I think everybody wants to see more stories of it and I think we totally just scratched the surface. And on top of that, I really want to see more of the characters from the past and I know the audience does too. Or things that were referred to in the past that we never saw. So, I'm determined to have it come back and it's a very easy show to come back. There's no... You know, we didn't end on a cliffhanger. So I think it's a possibility."

In September 2020, AMC announced they had been developing an episodic anthology series set within The Walking Dead universe and, to the delight of fans, Tales of the Walking Dead was officially greenlit as a six-episode in 2022. In 2023, Gimple was reported to oversee the anthology series More Tales from the Walking Dead Universe, and even though it wasn't clear if another season was on the cards or not, his recent response seems to confirm that the producer and writer is very open to the idea.

For fans who have been wondering if a Walking Dead movie could be down the road since Rick and Michonne's show was initially planned as a trilogy of films, Gimple said it is "probably less likely" to happen. With so many spin-offs happening in The Waking Dead' s universe, another season of Tales of the Walking Dead is unlikely to happen anytime soon, especially with Dead City season 2 set to begin on May 4, 2025, and Daryl Dixon season 3 arriving sometime in the autumn of this year.
