The Wheel of Time is a TV series on Amazon Prime Video. The project is an ambitious adaptation of Robert Jordan’s epic fantasy series. It debuted in 2021 and Season 3 was released earlier this year. Although the first season received mixed reactions, its most recent run was highly praised. However, despite the upward trajectory, Amazon canceled the show in May, leaving many fans heartbroken. One megafan is desperate for a fourth season, so they paid for a billboard to promote the show, hoping the series could still be saved.

The Wheel of Time fan paid for a billboard in Times Square in New York City in the hope of saving the show. In the snap acquired by IGN, the message on the billboard read, “I could have spent this money on my Amazon subscription, but they cancelled my fave show so here we are instead (AGAIN) help save The Wheel of Time.” The outlet added that a Brazilian fan group crowdsources their own billboard in the same area. The message on the display panel reads, “The wheel must keep turning on,” and it used the hashtag “#SAVEWOT” while encouraging others to sign the petition. One of the SaveWOT organizers spoke with IGN and shared that they planned to rent more billboard ads worldwide just to bring the show back. The organizer said fans were very generous in supporting their campaign. In fact, they had already hit three fundraising targets, which goes to show that many love the series and want more of it. They added that they took showrunner Rafe Judkins’ statement as an indication that “fan pressure can save The Wheel of Time.”

Judkins reacted to The Wheel of Time's cancellation by releasing a statement on Instagram. According to him, he was asked why the series was canceled and he admitted that he didn’t know and could not explain why its fate ended that way. Instead, he acknowledged the talented actors and crew and pointed out their achievement by appearing in Nielsen’s Top 10 for nearly 20 weeks, which he said was “a feat very few shows have been able to match in the last decade.Brandon Sanderson, who completed the book following Jordan’s passing and served as consulting producer for the Prime Video series, said fans “deserved better than a cancellation after the best season.”

Fans have launched an online petition to save The Wheel of Time and it has already received over 15,000 signatures as of this writing. The petition highlighted The Wheel of Time Season 3’s performance and how it outperformed other fantasy series like House of the Dragon Season 2, The Witcher Season 3, and Rings of Power Season 2. Given the overflowing support from fans, it’s likely that the show can still be saved. If Prime Video doesn’t want to give it a chance, other channels or streaming platforms can pick it up. This has happened several times in the past. For instance, when Fox canceled Lucifer after three seasons in 2018, Netflix saved it following a massive campaign from a global fanbase to save the show. Also, when NBC decided to cancel Manifest in 2021 after three seasons, Netflix came to the rescue and the show shot to #1 on Netflix’s US charts. When Cartoon Network dropped Star Wars: The Clone Wars after six seasons in 2013, Disney Plus took over after it acquired Lucasfilm and a seventh season was released on the streaming platform. So, it is possible for The Wheel of Time to continue, probably by finding a new home.

The Wheel of Time streams on Amazon Prime Video.
