The Witcher 3 is crossing over with Balatro, one of the best indie games of 2024. Released in May 2015, The Witcher 3 has remained relevant, taking part in numerous crossovers across games like Fortnite, Destiny 2, and Cyberpunk 2077. It remains one of the most award-winning games of all time, along with the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Last of Us Part 2.
Crossovers have continued to keep older games relevant, with titles like Fortnite, Dead by Daylight, and Minecraft introducing older IPs in both DLC content and free updates. The iconic Witcher character Geralt was featured as a skin in Fortnite along with Ciri and Yennifer in 2023. Unfortunately, some crossovers don’t hit the mark, like the recent Fallout and Fortnite crossover that left players wanting much more.
During the August 27 Nintendo Indie World Showcase, a trailer showed off a new Witcher 3 crossover coming to Balatro. The popular deckbuilding poker title, which has sold over two million copies to date, mixes the classic card game with roguelike elements. Balatro is one of the highest-rated games of 2024 so far, and several other crossovers with the poker title were also revealed, including Vampire Survivors, Dave the Diver, and Among Us. The update, called "Friends of Jimbo," is free to everyone who owns the game.

Dave the Diver announced its own crossover with Balatro during Gamescom this year. The indie game developed by MINTROCKET launched to its own rave reviews in 2023. Balatro teased some mechanics of the crossover cards in the trailer, with certain Dave the Diver cards cutting through others, as an example. Vampire Survivors cards were also teased, with Dracula being featured along with some of the heroes players use in the game.
Players have added some insane creations to Balatro themselves since the game was released. A fan on Reddit got the original Doom running inside Balatro and shared their results earlier this year. The game runs by showing off the classic FPS behind various cards, and is fully playable within the title, something made possible because of how small Doom is in comparison to Balatro. Other fans have joked, asking if the Reddit user could get Crysis working in the game.
