A clip from The Witcher 3 has displayed a hilarious NPC reaction that shows exactly how most people would react to fighting Geralt of Rivia. The protagonist of The Witcher 3 is one of the most fearsome fighters in video game history, and no one would blame an opponent for reacting in this way.
Combat in The Witcher 3 is generally considered to be a massive step up from the first two games, improving massively on some of the more dated mechanics of the older games. It was so well done by CD Projekt Red back in 2015 that many third-person RPGs to this day attempt to replicate the formula, with the newer Assassin's Creed games perhaps the most notable examples. Many consider it to be the first time the game's allowed players to truly feel like a Witcher, despite the best efforts of the first two.
The hilarious clip by a_selfish_burrito on Reddit shows Geralt getting himself into a fight with multiple enemies, including Ronvid of the Small Marsh. Geralt quickly dispatches of Ronvid's allies, and instead of continuing the fight, Ronvid slowly begins to creep away. Despite the player allowing Ronvid to walk away, another NPC kills him instead, ending the fight. It's a bizarre sight, and has to be a glitch in The Witcher 3, but there's no denying it's how any normal person would react to having to fight someone as powerful as Geralt.
One of the amazing features of The Witcher 3 is that it allows players to approach most situations with a completely different approach. There's one boss in The Witcher 3 that can be beaten without a fight at all. Even in this clip, the player attempts to stop fighting after defeating the first two enemies, with Geralt unable to do anything about the rogue NPC. It's this element of choice that has kept players returning to The Witcher 3 eight years after its release.
There's plenty to come from the Witcher franchise over the next few years. Fans are already imagining what The Witcher 4's menu might look like, with the game confirmed to be coming at some point in the next few years. The successful adaptation of the games over on Netflix is continuing beyond season 3, too, albeit with Liam Hemsworth in place of Henry Cavill playing the lead role of Geralt. It will be interesting to see if Hemsworth can live up to the role that many feel Cavill embodied, or if it will be a death blow to the show.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
