CD Projekt RED confirms that The Witcher 3's major cross-platform mod support update won't be making the game's anniversary year and instead will launch sometime in 2026. While eyes may have shifted to the future products being developed at CD Projekt RED, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2025.

As part of The Witcher 3's 10th anniversary, CD Projekt RED featured multiple announcements for fans, including game sales, special Xbox controllers, and even a concert tour to highlight the game's soundtrack. The game itself is still highly popular with players, even after 10 years, thanks to continued updates, expansions, and other content added over time. Unfortunately, one highly anticipated feature will need a bit more time before it's ready for players.

The Witcher 3 Update Gets a Major Delay

Earlier this year, CD Projekt RED announced one final update launching for The Witcher 3, finally bringing the highly-requested cross-platform mod support for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC players through the mod.io ecosystem. Alongside, this update will give console players the ability to download and use mods, which have traditionally been locked to the PC platform. Better yet, it'll be a free addition, with players only needing to first set up a mod.io account in order to start using mods.

While a specific release date hadn't been set at the time, CD Projekt RED updated the page on its website with the unfortunate news that the feature won't actually make its originally planned launch window. As it stands, the rollout is now scheduled for sometime in 2026, though specific details on why this happened or when the feature will launch weren't provided. CDPR apologized for the delay and promised more details as the release gets closer. Perhaps the delay could be to better align with the rumored Witcher 3 story DLC speculated to also launch in 2026.

Geralt and Ciri

Either way, there's no denying the impact and success that The Witcher 3 has had on CDPR over these 10 years, lessons which the developer has been utilizing in its future games. Already, members of the development team have indicated that the studio isn't trying to outdo The Witcher 3 with its future games and is instead trying to do justice to the franchise and has taken plenty of lessons to better improve The Witcher 4.
