Mandrake Cordial is one of three common alchemy ingredients you will want by the dozens in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It cannot be consumed and is only needed to make White Gulls to craft superior potions. They are an important part of leveling up your alchemy and crafting.
The Witcher 3: How To Increase Carry Weight
Being able to carry a lot more items means more hoarding for money in The Witcher 3. Here's how to do that.
How to Get Mandrake Cordial in The Witcher 3
The first thing to note is that the Mandrake Cordial has no alchemy or crafting recipe in The Witcher 3, so you cannot make it with the help of other ingredients.
The only way to get Mandrake Cordials is to buy them from innkeepers, taverns, and merchants across all regions in The Witcher 3. The problem is that every shopkeeper or merchant has only a few Mandrake Cordials to sell. The most you can buy at a time is five.
If you are looking forward to a Witcher 3 NG+ playthrough, you need to prepare beforehand by progressing your alchemy and crafting. Make it a habit to visit every tavern or shop to buy all of their Mandrake Cordials and Cherry Cordials. Doing this from the start of your campaign ensures a steady supply of White Gulls.
Merchants usually take two to three days to restock their inventory. You can save your time by meditating to fast-forward (skip) days.
Mandrake Cordial can also be found as random loot, but only in Toussaint, the vassal state of Nilfgaard. Expect to have several stacks in your inventory by the time you have unlocked the Blood and Wine expansion endings.
There is also another way to get Mandrake Cordials, but that requires you to cheat on the PC version. Depending on whether you want to role-play or not, you can use console commands to spawn items in The Witcher 3.
- Additem('Mandrake cordial') - add as many Mandrake Cordials as you want.
- Additem('White Gull 1') - or just add White Gulls straight away.
Best Locations to Get Mandrake Cordial in The Witcher 3
Some innkeepers and merchants have larger inventories, allowing them to sell double the amount of Mandrake Cordials (or more) than others. Some shopkeepers might even sell you for a cheap price. Knowing all of their locations will save you both time and money.
Jonas the Innkeep (Kaer Trolde, Skellige)
Jonas is one of the few innkeepers in The Witcher 3 who sell from five to up to 20 Mandrake Cordials at a time. His large inventory makes him the best and easiest source of finding Mandrake Cordials in the game.
Jonas is associated with The Lord of Undvik secondary quest. Completing that will give you a 10 percent discount on his wares as long as you made the correct choice at the end of the quest.
Jonas can be found managing the New Port Inn north of the Kaer Trolde Harbor. He is an important encounter in Skellige as far as the regional story is concerned. He also loves playing Gwent with a Monsters deck.
Innkeep (Harviken, Skellige)
Located in the southeastern corner of the Skellige Islands, the Innkeep of Harviken sells five to 20 Mandrake Cordials at a fairly cheap price. He also sells you more Monster cards.
Fish Merchant (Hierarch Square, Novigrad)
The Fish merchant inside Hierarch Square is another excellent source of Mandrake Cordials. He can sell up to 20 Mandrake Cordials at a time, just like Jonas, but at a steeper price.
You can complete the main Play's the Thing quest to unlock a 10 percent discount for every merchant in Hierarch Square.
Novigrad has a dedicated fish market, so there are likely other fish merchants. The one you need to go to stands in front of Vimme Vivaldi's Bank. However, he only appears at certain times of the day. You can meditate outside his shop to skip a few hours until he appears.
Hugo Monnart (Toussaint)
Hugo Monnart is a merchant who gives the best price for buying Mandrake Cordials in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. He also sells Cherry Cordials and Redanian Herbals at cheap prices, making him a highly useful merchant for crafting White Gulls.
Hugo is the only one willing to buy your crossbow bolts and give you the best price for all of your junk.
Hugo can be found at The Clever Clogs Tavern west of the Temple Cemetery, close to the Harbor, but only after completing his associated quest. Father Knows Worst is a secondary quest in which you must deal with Hugo's brothers.
