The Witcher 3 is one of the best RPGs of the last decade and undoubtedly the best installment of its franchise so far. Everything about the game is nearly perfect, from the stellar voice acting, the entertaining main and side quests, the combat mechanics, and the sword variety, to the carefully crafted environments, oils, and potions; some for healing and some for an edge in combat.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - How To Get The Blade From The Bits

The Witcher 3 has a ton of swords for players to take advantage of, but not all are easy to acquire. Here's how to get the Blade from the Bits.

During your playthrough, you'll find yourself in a mission called “Broken Flowers,” where you’ll have to participate in a horse race and will be given the chance to pick one of four horses to race with. Here’s which horse you should choose in the "Broken Flowers" quest.

Which Horse To Pick In Broken Flowers?

Novigrad is full of exciting quests and old friends that you can meet up with again, which makes arriving in the city for the first time one of the best parts of the game. There are some tough fights here and there, so if you’re not comfortable with your build at that point, you should try respeccing before moving forward. The “Broken Flowers” quest begins with Geralt talking to Zoltan after a fight. Geralt reveals that he suspects Ciri might still be in the area and wishes to talk to Dandelion about it. To figure out Dandelion’s whereabouts, you’ll have to use your Witcher Senses and be patient.

This will kick off a series of events that will eventually lead you to the Vegelbud residence, where you'll be asked to race and be offered a superior racing saddle for winning. Should you agree, you'll be given the chance to pick between four different horses to race with, which is where most players get confused or scared of making the wrong choice. The options are:

  • Cantarella
  • Nemrod
  • Chestnut
  • An unnamed Zerrikanian bay

The truth is that, regardless of your choice, you'll have the same odds of winning, as every horse is the same in terms of speed, stamina, and every other aspect. The only thing that changes is color.

Tips For Winning The Race

Now that you know that, regardless of the horse you pick, you'll have the same odds of winning, let's discuss some things you can do to ensure your victory and future ownership of the superior racing saddle. First and foremost, you'll want to keep an eye on your horse’s stamina. Yes, being in the lead is reassuring, but once your horse gets tired, other riders can pass you.

The key is to exhaust between 70-80% of your horse’s stamina, then let it rest and cut off any riders trying to pass you. This will ensure that your horse has a full stamina bar in no time and that other riders won’t pass you or get significantly far ahead of you while it rests. Keep this up, and you should stay comfortably in first place until you reach the finish line.
