Who is Nakime, and Why is She So Important?

Stands Out in a Room of Powerful Demons

Nakime has always acted as the summoner and observer for the demon meetings. During the first season, she summoned the entirety of the surviving Lower Rank Demons while not participating in the conversation herself. In Season 3, after Gyutaro's death, she summons the remaining Upper Rank Demons.

This time, she freely converses with the highest-ranked Demons and also declines Doma's proposal, showing how important she is to Muzan. Usually, any demon would be forced to follow an Upper Rank, but Nakime's freedom to not do so with no consequences shows that she is extremely valuable in Muzan's eyes, hence untouchable by other demons. Later, she also goes on to become the Upper Rank 4 Demon.

Nakime's Life Before Becoming a Demon

Unlike other demons, Nakime seems to lack aggression and bloodlust. For the most part, she has only been seen conversing in strategic conversations, and we don't know much about her own emotions. Interestingly, she was more like a demon when she was a human. During her human life, she was a struggling biwa player, doing her best to make ends meet. One day before her performance, she found that her performance kimono was missing. When she found out that it had been sold by her gambling-addicted husband, she furiously killed him.

Killing for the first time left her with a sensation she had never felt before. This sensation helped her play the biwa amazingly and led her to create a habit of killing people before her performances. Eventually, one of the people she tried to kill turned out to be Muzan. Impressed by Nakime, he offered her to become a demon, to which she agreed.

Her Strength Lies Outside of Combat

While most demons are valued for their strength, Nakime's strength lies in the usage of her Blood Demon Art outside combat. Her Blood Demon Art is the Infinity Castle, which she can control completely. This allows her to teleport anyone in and out of the castle and through its endless rooms and mazes. She also restructures the castle whenever she needs to in order to assist other demons.

Her Blood Demon Art isn't that deadly but it's really annoying!!

After becoming an Upper Rank Demon, she also gained enhanced surveillance techniques that she used to spy on numerous Demon Slayers. In Season 4, Episode 8, she used her surveillance to teleport most of the active Demon Slayers directly into the Infinity Castle.

Nakime's First and Only "Fight"

While it is true that Nakime did not fight for the entirety of Demon Slayer. Near the end of the series, fans will finally see her "fight". Having complete control over the Infinity Castle allowed Nakime to create obstacles and slow down Demon Slayers endlessly. Realizing this, Obanai and Mitsuri fight Nakime. Nakime, for the most part, fights defensively.

She uses her Demon Art to avoid attacks from the Hashiras and displacing them. Eventually, she crushes the Hashiras and seemingly kills them. But Muzan later finds out that Nakime is being brainwashed by Yushiro, and the Hashiras did not die. Having no way to get control back of Nakime, Muzan kills her by crushing her head.
