Thor: Love and Thunder is the highly-anticipated follow-up movie to the fan favourite Thor: Ragnarok, which will bring back director Taika Waititi. Now, new promo art for Thor 4 reminds fans how important Natalie Portman's Jane Foster will be.
Thor: Love and Thunder will mark the long-awaited return of Jane Foster, who will don the same armour in the comic books while also gaining the powers of the God of Thunder. This will mean that fans who were wondering what was in store for Portman's character no longer have to wonder anymore.
The new image comes from the DisneyPhile Live Twitter account. In the promo art, Thor is back to his original look, which was also confirmed by a behind-the-scenes image released earlier that showed the character. Now, fans also got a better look at what Jane Foster will look like in Thor 4, and it appears they will be keeping it as comic accurate as possible. Foster is even sporting the mask that she's known for rocking in the comic book source material. The image also shows Foster using Mjolnir, and fans can spot the lightning shooting from the very iconic weapon.
Right now, it's unclear how much power Jane Foster will have or how she acquires this power, but it is a welcomed storyline. It's about time this character gets her due and steps out of the shadows. Foster has a big heart but was always limited by being a human in a world where there are gods and aliens. The world in Thor's movies isn't an easy place to be in without powers. Even for super soldiers like Captain America or Bucky Barnes, there are still several levels of super-powerful beings ahead of them. Since Foster typically appears in Thor films, this upgrade is very appropriate.
One thing for certain is that Marvel Studios does a good job at making the "powerless" heroes useful despite the large power gap with newcomers such as Captain Marvel. Black Widow, Hawkeye, Daredevil, Nick Fury and Shang-Chi all have an aspect to them that makes them above an "average" human, which gives them the edge to fight somebody much stronger. Whether it's mystical, super senses or just mastered techniques, these characters all prove that there's a place for everyone.
Thor: Love and Thunder is slated for a July 8th, 2022, theatrical release date.
