Throne and Liberty has a lot of moving parts when it comes to progressing a character. There are many weapons to choose between that will affect your playstyle, skills to assign to these weapons, and, of course, upgrading your skills to make them more effective.

A lot of skills, both active and passive, will be locked behind level requirements. These can be as low as level 3 and as high as the maximum level of 50. Once unlocked, players will be able to slot them into their loadout. However, these skills will not get stronger on their own and will require some special items to upgrade.

Throne & Liberty gives players many animal forms to change into, but these are not just for show and can help them traverse the world around them.

What Do You Need To Upgrade Skills In Throne And Liberty?

In order to upgrade a skill, you will need a Skill Growth Book. These books come in two forms; Active Skill Growth Boo k for your active skills and Passive Skill Growth Book for your passive skills — these books also come in different rarities.

Your skills will start at Common rarity, and as they are upgraded to higher values, will eventually also become a greater rarity. When a skill changes to a higher rarity, its value will reset. There are five ranks to reach the next rarity, and it will become harder to progress a skill up to its next rarity compared to the previous upgrade.

Life Skills are one of the newest additions to Throne and Liberty, and some players might worry they come late into the game.

Where To Get Skill Growth Books In Throne and Liberty?

Players will be able to make these books themselves with the right materials, such as Quality Marind Ore and Rare Marind Ore. These ores will be obtained as rewards by playing through the game, from NPCs, and from chests, but can also be obtained through the act of mining. Stopping for some downtime between quests to fish and mine is a perfect way to stock up on some materials, allowing you to explore other facets of the game.

To make these books, you will need to head over to a Skill Researcher with the right materials. This will cost you a different Tax Rate depending on your location. This means it might be better to wait and upgrade and save some of that Sollant for other activities.

Players will also be able to get these books already in a completed state as reward items. This can be from sources such as the Battle Pass or from completing quests. Another great opportunity to get them is by looking through the rewards of events.

You will get Adrian Marind by following the story, which serves as a tutorial for how to use these books. But you can use obtained material to upgrade Skills before you even get to this quest.

Upgrading Your Skills In Throne And Liberty

Upgrading skills is not as simple as just using a Growth Book and getting a level, as each book will add a random amount of progress to the process. There are 4 Skill Growth Rates, Common, Intermediate, Greater, and Special. Each offers a different percentage and offers a different amount of growth.

Common

40%

Intermediate

30%

50

Greater

20%

70

Special

10%

100

This means only a result of Special will push the skill by 1 entire level. Luckily, any overflow will be applied to the next skill upgrade. This is very similar to how this mechanic works when players upgrade their gear.

Players should aim to get all the skills they need to the same level of rarity rather than focus on getting one skill to Epic. This is because it will lead to a more balanced character that can perform their playstyle consistently. Players need to balance out their offensive capability with survivability in order to overcome every challenge ahead. Having lopsided skills might make higher-level fights lopsided and difficult due to a weak point in a player's playstyle.

Swapping Skills

Players will be familiar with swapping between their weapons, but doing so with skills is a far more arduous ordeal. In addition to the Level Up tab, there is also a Swap tab. To find this tab, players will need to first open up their skills section, select the skill, and select Skill Growth. Now they will see the Swap Tag next to Level up on the Enchant Skill page.

This will let a player take the skills from a weapon they no longer wish to use and move them over to a different choice. Players should not worry about picking the wrong weapon, or leveling up the wrong skills. However, this will require a Skill Conversion Book each time, and repeatedly doing this can eat up a lot of resources that could be better spent elsewhere.

Skill Specializations In Throne And Liberty

Just like knowing which Stats will be important for a build, so too will the Skill Specializations chosen. Once a player has hit level 15, they will gain access to Skill Specializations. Players will start with 10 skill specialization points, but will then get 2 more skill specialization points for every level up until level 30. At this point, they will then gain 3 skill specialization points for every level up to the maximum level of 50. This comes to a total of one hundred skill specialization points.

Players can apply these by going to the Skills section, and then to the Skipp Specializations tab. If players are not happy with their choices of where they have allocated their points. They will be able to relocate these points any time they wish.
