The Best War Games can exclusively share a new behind-the-scenes clip from Thunderbolts*, documenting how some of its movie magic came to be. The video will be included in the upcoming Thunderbolts* digital and 4K Blu-ray release.

The final film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase Five, Thunderbolts* premiered in U.S. Theaters on May 2. It's estimated to have grossed around $381 million internationally, with North America accounting for $189 million of that figure. On June 18, Marvel officially announced the movie's digital debut, as well as its digital and 4K Blu-ray version, both set to arrive next month.

Marvel Fans Have A Crazy Theory About The Thunderbolts* Post-Credit Scene That Might Impact Avengers: Doomsday

Marvel fans have picked up an interesting theory about the Thunderbolts* post-credit scene that may impact Avengers: Doomsday.

As is customary for physical film releases, the digital release and Blu-ray version of Thunderbolts* will include some extras, including behind-the-scenes footage and interviews. Marvel has now shared one such clip, which The Best War Games can exclusively reveal. The two-minute video covers the making of a flashy sequence that plays out around one hour and 36 minutes into the film. Without venturing into concrete spoilers, it involves Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) facing some serious demons while exploring a realm that appears more psychological than physical.

New Thunderbolts* Behind-the-Scenes Clip

According to Marvel Studios Executive Producer Brian Chapek, the production team knew from the outset that they wanted to bring a certain sense of realism to the sequence. To that end, they built multiple four-wall sets for Pugh to physically break through, resulting in more dynamic transitions with added grit and impact. The behind-the-scenes footage seen in the featurette suggests that the first transition where Pugh's character jumps from a forest onto an office table wasn't captured on the first attempt. Instead, two different takes are shown, appearing around the 36- and 52-second marks.

Thunderbolts*, on the whole, attempts to balance practical effects and CGI throughout its two-hour runtime. Recent years saw a small resurgence in practical effects across the movie business, driven by both artistic vision and audience fatigue with pure CGI. While computer-generated imagery remains prevalent, there is renewed appreciation for tactile realism and in-camera techniques. As this featurette illustrates, director Jake Schreier was keen to have Thunderbolts* aligned with this trend.

Thunderbolts* will be released on Digital July 1 and 4K/Blu-ray July 29. These expanded releases are key in narrowing the film’s financial shortfall. Despite receiving largely favorable reviews across the board, Thunderbolts* is said to have lost at least $44 million at the box office, according to a recent report by Variety, which estimates the movie's break-even target was in the ballpark of $425 million.
