The Soulslike genre has never been hotter, largely thanks to the hype surrounding FromSoftware's open world epic Elden Ring, which has smashed sales records for the company. Elden Ring players who are hungry for new Soulslike experiences don't have to wait much longer, as a brand-new Soulslike game is scheduled to drop next week in the form of Thymesia. And to the surprise of many, it's even coming to the Nintendo Switch.

Thymesia is skipping PS4 and Xbox One, which makes its Switch release that much more surprising. However, there's a catch that Nintendo Switch owners should be aware of when it comes to picking up Thymesia on Nintendo's home console/handheld hybrid. Thymesia on Switch will not be a native release. Instead, Thymesia will only be playable on the Switch through Nintendo's cloud services.

Nintendo's cloud services have been used in the past to bring games to the Switch that would otherwise not be playable on the console due to its limited power. Mileage may vary when it comes to how well the game will run as a Nintendo Switch cloud gaming title, so those who want the highest-quality Thymesia experience will likely want to stick with the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X versions of the game. Still, it's better than nothing, as otherwise Thymesia wouldn't be playable on the Switch at all.

For those unfamiliar with the game, Thymesia appears to be a Soulslike through-and-through, with a particular focus on combat. Thymesia has been most often compared to Bloodborne, a FromSoftware-developed Soulslike that supports a more-aggressive approach to combat than the Dark Souls series of games. How exactly Thymesia stacks up to those titles remains to be seen, but fans don't have to wait much longer to find out.

Originally, the Thymesia release date was scheduled for August 9, but it was delayed to August 18. Some may be disappointed that they have to wait an extra week to play Thymesia for themselves, but this will in turn ensure that the game is more polished and hopefully better live up to the lofty expectations set by its inspirations.

Thymesia's story sees players take on the role of Corvus, who must explore the Kingdom of Hermes, currently suffering from a plague. The jury is still out on whether Thymesia can carve out an identity of its own or not, but fans will find out when the game launches next week.

Thymesia launches August 18 for PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X.
