Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak pits hunters against a huge crab-like monster called the Daimyo Hermitaur. While the monster is brand-new to Monster Hunter Rise, it's not a new monster in the series, as it was first brought into the fold with Monster Hunter 2 in 2006. One of the standout design features of the Daimyo Hermitaur is the giant shell on its back, which looks like a skull of a dinosaur (or some other monster belonging to the Monster Hunter world).

The shell on the back of the Daimyo Hermitaur will be key for Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak players looking for a crafting material called Timeworn Crimson Horn. Those who want to craft the Hermitaur Coil as part of the Hermitaur Master Rank armor set will need one of those special horns.

How to Get Timeworn Crimson Horn in Sunbreak

Unfortunately, there is only one way to get the Timeworn Crimson Horn in Sunbreak: fighting against Daimyo Hermitaur in Master Rank. And simply killing it won't be enough to get the rare material, as players will need to either capture it during a quest or destroy its shell using a blunt weapon like a Hammer or Hunting Horn.

As far as the exact chance of obtaining the Timeworn Crimson Horn, here's what players need to know:

  • There's only a 10% chance of getting the item through capture rewards.
  • There's a 90% chance of getting the item as a broken part reward by breaking its tough shell.

Breaking the Shell

If players find themselves having trouble destroying the shell's exterior, it can be made easier by having the Partbreaker Skill equipped on your hunter.

If players get their hands on the Destroyer Jewel decoration, they can put it on their weapons and armor sets, making it easier to break or sever parts of large monsters.

Another tip is to gather a group of friends and make sure that everyone focuses on breaking the shell down instead of attacking Daimyo Hermitaur's body. This might not be easy to do when playing online with randoms, as it can be hard to communicate what needs to be done.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is available for PC and Nintendo Switch.
