  • Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford hints at potential future content for Borderlands spinoff Tiny Tina's Wonderlands following its successful launch.
  • Fans of the game can expect more from the fantasy looter shooter, with a possible sequel on the horizon.
  • With Borderlands 4 rumored to be Gearbox's next big title, a new Wonderlands game may still be several years away.

Fans of 2022's fantasy looter shooter Tiny Tina's Wonderlands may be excited to hear recent comments from Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford. A spinoff of Gearbox's popular Borderlands series, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands was released to positive reception from players, especially fans of Borderlands 2's Assault on Dragon's Keep DLC, which inspired the Wonderlands spinoff.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands received glowing critical praise for its Dungeons and Dragons-inspired storytelling, with beloved Borderlands character Tiny Tina at the helm as the narrative's dungeon master. The game's clever blend of Borderlands' cell shaded art style and its fantasy setting pleased fans, as did the game's combat with its tight first-person gunplay, wide array of neat weapons, and vast selection of powerful magic spells and abilities. Following a middling Borderlands 3 in 2019, Wonderlands was a surprise to many who were expecting more of the same from Gearbox.

In an interview with GamesRadar+ at San Diego Comic-Con, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford brought up how successful Tiny Tina's Wonderlands turned out to be, even going as far as to say it was a more successful launch than the original Borderlands, which makes sense considering Borderlands 2 is where the series really picked up steam. Pitchford went on to hint that due to the critical and commercial success of Wonderlands, there may be more that fans of Tiny Tina's fantasy spinoff could look forward to in the future, saying "...what we demonstrated with the first Wonderlands game is that there's something there. It was wildly successful and exceeded our expectations...I think it's reasonable for our fans to expect more there."

Gearbox Boss Hints At More Tiny Tina Content

Due to it being two and a half years since the release of Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, it's likely that Pitchford is hinting at a full-on sequel rather than more DLC. Whether a sequel will remain in Wonderlands' Dungeons and Dragons-esque fantasy setting or if it'll bring Tiny Tina to an entirely new world is unknown. It's important to remember that Pitchford's comments are far from confirmation. On top of that, it's been heavily rumored that Borderlands 4 is likely to be Gearbox's next big title, so a potential Wonderlands sequel would still be several years away.

...what we demonstrated with the first Wonderlands game is that there's something there. It was wildly successful and exceeded our expectations...I think it's reasonable for our fans to expect more there.

While it seems Gearbox is very close to officially announcing Borderlands 4, fans won't need to wait until the fourth installment or the hinted Tiny Tina spinoff continuation to get their fix of the franchise, as the long-in-development Borderlands movie is finally set to hit theaters in just a few weeks, on August 9. Perhaps Borderlands fans will learn more about what Gearbox's next big game is, and whether it's Borderlands 4, later in August during Geoff Keighley's annual Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase.
