Summary

  • Focus on defense before expanding to prevent greedlings from infiltrating the camp.
  • Gathering gold early on is crucial for sustaining the kingdom's operations.
  • Activate statues for permanent buffs, and explore new islands to progress in the campaign.

Kingdom Two Crowns is a tower defense game that features a combination of kingdom management and defensive arrangements against enemy waves, though the second part isn't particularly relevant until the latter part of the campaign. The ultimate goal of the game is to launch attacks on Greed, destroy its portals, and occupy all the islands in the player's vicinity.

The game operates on the principle of "Show, don't tell." It has a lot of interesting interactions and gameplay mechanics that are left up to the player to discover, without any guidance from the game itself. This is fantastic for immersion, but can end up with the player not realizing certain features exist. With this in mind, here are a few tips beginners might find useful in the game.

6 Don't Expand Too Early

Haste Makes Waste

  • Focus on defense before expanding.
  • Pikemen make great defenders.

In the player's first few days of settling the first island, greed won't launch any attacks on their settlements. However, after a short respite, nightly waves of enemies will start to harass the outer walls on both sides. If the player expands too early, they won't be able to properly defend their walls, leading to greedlings infiltrating the camp and killing productive workers.

To prevent this from happening, make sure to have enough defenders, archer towers, and a properly upgraded outer wall. Pikemen are great for defending borders, but are only unlocked after the player progresses to the Stone Age.

5 Get A Steady Source of Income

Money Makes the World Go Round

  • Gather gold as soon as possible.
  • Cutting trees, killing wildlife, and farming are great sources of gold.

The most important thing to do when building a kingdom from scratch, is to obtain a sustainable source of income. Gold is required for every action, every building, and every worker recruited. Having enough gold is essential to the proper working of the kingdom.

Blending aspects of city creation and survival, here are the top games that combine both the best.

There are a few different sources of gold. Firstly, archers will hunt any wildlife that they encounter on their forays into the wild, or within the walls of the kingdom. Cutting down trees will generate some gold as well. Lastly, farmers will generate gold when they harvest their crops. The last method, using farmers, is the most consistent and lucrative money-making method. Players will need to upgrade the town center to a certain level before they can recruit farmers, and they'll need to build farmland on top of a small river where they can work the land to grow crops and generate gold.

4 Check The Island's Surroundings

Get To Every Nook and Cranny

  • Explore the island.
  • Go beyond the portals without worrying about greedlings.

No matter which island the player is trying to populate, it will have treasures waiting to be claimed. These treasures can be hermit huts, vagrant camps, chests full of gold and gems, or even statues that grant boons when activated.

Explore both sides of the island to make sure to get every buff and boon possible. After the first island, the player will start coming across portals that block their way. However, they can safely ignore these portals and walk right past them. Players just need to make sure that their steed is well-fed before crossing a portal, as it will spawn a few greedlings that will chase them for a few seconds before retreating.

3 Pay The Banker

Diversify One's Portfolio

  • Store gold with the banker to help manage finances.
  • Don't withdraw gold unless necessary, as it accrues interest.

After the player upgrades their town center to Tier 4 - Town Hall, they will unlock the banker. This unassuming fellow is the key to growing the kingdom rapidly and properly managing finances. In the morning and evenings, he can be found near the town center. However, he retreats into the hall during nights, and during counter waves from greedlings.

10 Best Looking Games on Nintendo Switch, Ranked

The Nintendo Switch has some graphical limitations, but it still features some gorgeous-looking games.

As a banker, he has two functions: letting the player deposit and withdraw gold, and paying the player interest on the amount stored in his vault. To deposit money with the banker, stand next to him and start dropping coins. He will automatically start picking them up. After a certain point, he'll stop and move next to the town center where he will deposit the coins. The player can continue to give him coins while he's depositing to make the process faster. To withdraw coins from the bank, simply stand in front of the banker, and he will start dropping coins for the player until they move.

The money stored with the banker can be seen when the town center is open in the morning in the form of a gold pile. It accrues around 7% interest daily. Money stored at the bank remains available for heirs even if the player loses their crown.

2 Praise The Statues

Permanent Active Buffs

  • Statues can be activated using gems and gold, granting the civilization permanent buffs.
  • These buffs can be reactivated by heirs as well, without spending any gems.

On the beautiful islands of Kingdom Two Crowns, relics from a bygone era can be found scattered across the land in the form of statues. These can be activated, usually with the help of gems and coins. The statues that players find on their journey give their entire kingdom permanent buffs that don't go away until they lose their crown. Even then, they can be reactivated without the need for any gems.

These buffs vary from statue to statue, but are always a net benefit to the player. The statue on the first island is that of an archer. On activation, it buffs the accuracy of all ranged attacks, including catapults. This makes all archers and catapults a lot deadlier compared to before.

1 Explore the Seas

New Lands Hold the Secret To Progress

  • New islands represent new opportunities.
  • Use wharf bells to bring troops alongside the player, and use lighthouses to make returning easy.

When the player starts their journey, they'll come across a ship wreck relatively close. Rebuild it as soon as necessary amount of resources are gathered, as it will let the player explore other nearby islands and expand the empire to an appropriate size. Not only is exploration good for resource gathering, it is necessary to improve technology, get new statue buffs, and complete the campaign.

Rebuilding the ship doesn't take too much gold on the first island. Players will only need 12 gold to get it into the water, and 10 more gold to embark on the nautical adventure of their dreams. However, the costs increase when repairing the ship on other islands. If the player destroys the far side dock portal and builds a lighthouse, they will be able to come back to that island without wrecking the ship during the docking process.

Always ring the wharf bell before leaving an island. This allows citizens to board the ship alongside the player to help expand the kingdom and speed up the settlement's progress.
