Due to the interesting blend of game play mechanics, it is easy for a new player to get lost during the beginning. There are some beginner tips to know before starting the Century: Age of Ashes, as it can make game play much easier for a player.

7 Play the Tutorial

Age of Ashes - Shooting a stream of fire.

It sounds obvious to just about any player, but it's a good idea to go through the tutorial of the game instead of just skipping. Century: Age of Ashes especially has mechanics that can be confusing for somebody who has no idea about the game play mechanics.

Luckily, the tutorial of the game is relatively quick to go through. It will only take a few minutes to read up on the basics of the game, and a player will come away with enough information to dip their toes into the scene without too much fiddling around.

6 Adjust the Mouse Sensitivity

A large part of Century: Age of Ashes is using the mouse for game play. The mouse is used to fly dragons, battle enemies, and so on and so forth. As such, playing with a mouse that's too sensitive or not sensitive enough can cause game play to become a challenge.

Thankfully, it's easy for somebody to fix the sensitivity of their mouse. All they have to do is enter training mode and adjust the mouse sensitivity until it's just right. Too high means the mouse is too finicky, and too low sensitivity is too sluggish.

5 The Shift Key is Useful - Use It

The Shift Key is a key that tends to do a bit underused for most players in the game. However, it is worth noting that the Shift Key is actually very useful if a player knows how to use it.

If a dragon is chasing a player, and they need to escape quickly, using the Shift key will help them to turn a sharp corner, or even make a 180-degree turn and start attacking the chaser. A player can follow the trail of the red dragon to learn how to use it efficiently.

4 Turn in Multiple Ways to Confuse Chasers

It is only inevitable that, during game play, a player is going to get chased down by another dragon. It's something that every player goes through in Century: Age of Ashes, and it's not fun.

Thankfully, a player can easily shake a tailgater off of their tracks by turning hard and fast in multiple directions. Essentially, a player wants to become unpredictable, to a point where the person chasing them grows confused and eventually loses track of them. After that, the newly freed player can choose to either run off or attempt a sneak attack on their opponent.

3 Try Not to Use Fireballs Too Much

Age of Ashes - Flying around castles.

Despite seeming like a tried and true spell that can work in every situation (like in most other games), using a Fireball in Century: Age of Ashes isn't a guaranteed safe spell. Most people expect for a player to only shoot Fireballs, so they will prepare accordingly.

It's best for a player to only use a few Fireballs, as the cool-down is high on this skill and enemies will expect this skill. When the fire ball is refreshing, a player should take this opportunity to blast all sorts of other spells at their enemies.

2 Frostbolts Can Destroy Armor

Age of Ashes - Breathing fire on a town.

Once a player sees that there are more spells to use than just a Fireball, it is around then that other skills will start coming into play. One of these spells is the frostbolt, which is a great spell to use to pierce through the armor of the enemy's dragon and deal more damage.

Additionally, a player can use Fire Breath to destroy the enemy's armor, if a Frostbolt is on cool down. After the armor has been destroyed, then they can use a Firebolt to cause serious damage.

1 Play Around with the Classes

There are multiple classes for a player to choose and go through in Century: Age of Ashes. Each class has different perks, such as the Windguard reducing the cooldown on Fireballs, or the Phantom being able to launch an explosive high damage projectile.

There's no right or wrong answer to which class a player should pick. All the classes have their own ups and downs that tailor toward a specific play style, and a player should take the time to choose some classes on different characters and get a feel of how they all play. There's no penalty for trying.

Century: Age of Ashes is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 5.
