Titan Quest 2 has a prologue where the player gets the first taste of the game's mechanics, story, and combat while they explore a small island. While there are a few optional things to do there, this area serves as the springboard to get you ready for all else the game has to offer.

Finding the Right Build in Titan Quest 2
Masteries
Choosing your Masteries in the first area of the game is the most important decision you make in the game. You can only choose two, and once chosen, you won't be able to change them ever. While you can respec, your chosen Masteries will determine the class of your character, and set you up for a few potential builds depending on your choice.
While this choice is final, never be afraid to start a new character and try out different combinations. The prologue area of the game is the perfect stage to get a few levels in on a build and see how it feels before committing many hours to a character. You can also preview almost all the skills in a skill tree right away, letting you see exactly what you're working for.
Picking the Right Stats
There are four main attributes you can invest points in with each level up:
- Agility
- Knowledge
- Might
- Vigor
While each one makes your character stronger in one way or another, you'll want to focus heavily on just one or two to increase to make sure your character really masters something instead of trying to be a jack-of-all-trades.
Upgrade Your Skills
After unlocking a skill, you can upgrade that skill by investing more points into it. Every few points you invest, you can add on a bonus to that skill to either add additional effects or just give a straight damage boost. Early on, it's recommended you invest all your points into one or two skills, maxing out their damage potential before moving on to another skill.
Combat Tips in Titan Quest 2
Using Potions
As you attack enemies in combat and deal damage to them, the small red line around your health orb will fill up. As you fill up the bar to a marker on the bar, that represents a potion you can use in combat. The key to staying alive is to fight aggressively, as the more damage you deal, the more you can heal. The amount the potion bar fills is determined by the damage you deal, so a glass-cannon build does get the benefit of getting a lot more potions.
Upgrading Your Dodge
A lot of enemies and bosses in the game have area-of-effect attacks that will be displayed before they actually attack. Dodging is a key way to stay up in a fight, though it's not the best at the start of the game. In your Core skill tree, you can upgrade your dodge, giving it additional bonuses to make it much more useful, especially against difficult bosses like the first one against the Gryphon.
Wearing lighter armor also gives your dodge a quicker cooldown.

Side Quests & Quest Items
Outside of the main quest line, there will also be side quests and quest items that can be found. Quest Items aren't always tied to a specific quest that appears in your journal, though figuring out the mystery behind them can give you additional XP or even rare gear pieces determined by your current build, such as the Strange Jar quest. Bosses pull no punches, even just on normal, so you'll always want to make sure you're taking any chance you can to level up, increasing your base stats and also upgrading your skills.
Selling Old Items
You'll be finding a lot of items throughout the game, and once something isn't viable for your build, sell it. Gold has a lot of uses throughout the game, and you won't be looting all you need early on, so selling old items is your best bet. Every town has a merchant that you should visit every time you pass through to make sure gear isn't being left behind and not used for something.
