Although Titanfall and Titanfall 2 have built up a decent fan base in the years since their release, Respawn Entertainment has yet to confirm if a third entry is in development. Fans had their suspicions and there have been rumors, but earlier this week a community coordinator for Respawn shot down those hopes. Now, Respawn is back-tracking on that individual’s claims and once again renewing hope that a Titanfall 3 might eventually be a reality.
Discussions around Titanfall 3 initially started after Respawn Community Coordinator Jason Garza answered a question about the sequel during a livestream. Garza didn’t mince words, explaining that Respawn has nothing in the works for Titanfall 3. He even went so far as to say there is “nothing there.”
This, of course, set off the Titanfall fan base, who have held out hope that Respawn Entertainment might eventually develop Titanfall 3. The topic was trending on Twitter, with many voicing their frustrations - so much so that Respawn Entertainment’s Twitter account had to chime in and calm those concerns. The account’s message explained that Titanfall is the core of Respawn’s DNA and left fans with a cryptic, “Who knows what the future holds...”
While Respawn Entertainment has every right to set the record straight on incorrect information, the “reporting” that the studio is referencing comes from comments made by its own Community Coordinator. This was not rumors or speculation based on an insider, but the words of someone from within the Respawn team.
On top of that if anyone or anything would know what the future holds for Titanfall it would Respawn Entertainment. So leaving things cryptic like that suggests that the message was more about calming fans down than confirming Titanfall 3 is in the cards. Respawn has not shied away from explaining why it chose not to make Titanfall 3 and instead put its efforts into Apex Legends, which has proven a big success for the developer.
In addition to Apex Legends’ development, Respawn Entertainment also has the presumed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sequel in the works and a mysterious project as well. If Titanfall 3 were in the works then it would be after both of those and would likely be competing for development attention from the Apex Legends team.
But Jason Garza is a pretty good source for information about Respawn Entertainment’s goings-on, even if he maybe didn’t phrase things in the best way. He shut the door completely, more or less, while Respawn wanted to keep it slightly ajar for the fans. Maybe at some point Respawn Entertainment will announce Titanfall 3 but it doesn’t look like it is happening anytime soon, contrary to the correction the studio issued to Garza’s statements.
