A recent conference call has hinted at the possibility of a sequel to the critically acclaimed Titanfall 2, which launched all the way back in 2016. After Respawn's successful revival of Titanfall on Steam, following Electronic Arts releasing a number of its games to the platform, it is not surprising that there will be a possible third game in the series.
During its 2020 Q1 financial conference call, EA's own Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen teased the return of the Titanfall series in the future, following the unprecedented success of Apex Legends. He discussed the acquisition of Respawn, at which time the studio was, in fact, working on Titanfall 3, and that fans may "see Titanfall sometime down the road." Whether or not this hint ends up becoming a fully-fledged release is yet to be confirmed, but the news is exciting for fans nonetheless.
Considering Respawn Entertainment's co-founder Vince Zampella mentioned that Titanfall 2 should have sold better at launch, it is no surprise that EA may be looking to give the game a new awakening. As the game is technically a prequel set in the same world as Apex Legends, with the battle royale title featuring many weapons from its predecessor, there could be a way for Respawn to tie in the stories of the two games, which would be a unique and innovative way of connecting two IPs.
What the future holds for Titanfall is still unknown, and Respawn has only recently mentioned that Titanfall 3 is not in development. But with teases of Titanfall 2 content inside Apex Legends, the game could be in concept and planning stages, and this is excellent news for fans of both games.
Titanfall 2 is currently available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
