Summary

  • Titus Welliver is uncertain about the Ballard spin-off release date, stating it's above his pay grade.
  • Welliver, despite his involvement with Ballard, he seemingly lacks knowledge of Ballard spin-off details.
  • Fans of Bosch: Legacy took action with a petition to save the show, garnering significant support.

Fans are coming to terms with the end of Bosch: Legacy after a thrilling final season. There was no sense of closure for Harry Bosch after Amazon canceled it last year, and the streamer are now focusing their attention on the launch of the Ballard spin-off. Titus Welliver will appear in three cameo-style appearances in the Ballard spin-off, but he isn't involved in any other way, and he isn't even sure when the show is coming out.

The teaser trailer for the Ballard spin-off conveniently dropped on the eve of Bosch: Legacy's final season, in a very cynical move by Amazon. Bosch: Legacy fans had to wait ages for a trailer to drop for the final season, and the overall promotion of the show was lackluster. A release date for Ballard is expected at some point this year.

Titus Welliver Isn't Sure When The Ballard Spin-Off Is Actually Coming Out As It's 'Above His Pay Grade'

Titus Welliver has been busy doing a string of 'speed dating' style 11-minute interviews to promote the final two episodes of Bosch: Legacy. During the promotional tour, the Harry Bosch star was very honest about the cancelation of Bosch: Legacy, while also speaking positively about his ongoing business relationship with Amazon, even though they misled him about the transition plan they had for Bosch: Legacy to make way for the Ballard spin-off. Welliver was asked if he knew when the Ballard spin-off would be released in a recent interview with The Direct:

I don't know. No official air date has been announced, but I'm thinking it's certainly going to come out in 2025, but that's above my pay grade. I'm very excited for it to come out.

The fans are very excited about the Ballard spin-off, and it'll be interesting to see when the new 10-episode debut season drops. Welliver's use of the phrase 'above my pay grade' could be a humorous play on Harry Bosch's famous line, which he uses when he chooses not to get involved in the higher-up decisions in the LAPD. Welliver has also decided not to get involved in Amazon's business decisions, and he admitted in another interview with Moviefone that he has no idea why Amazon really canceled Bosch: Legacy:

I did not know that. Nobody knew that. We were already talking about what we were going to do in season 4. So, as Harry would say, 'That's above my pay grade'. I don't know all the different machinations or reasons.

Just an idea, don't shout, but why doesn't Titus Welliver ask Amazon why they canceled Bosch: Legacy? The fans would love to know.

Titus Welliver Doesn't Seem To Know Much At All About The Ballard Spin-Off, And This Is Surprising

On the surface, it looks like Titus Welliver doesn't know much about the Ballard spin-off, despite appearing in three episodes and signing a first-look deal with Amazon after the cancelation of Bosch: Legacy. In an interview with Starry Constellation Magazine, Welliver was asked if he knew if any of the other characters from Bosch: Legacy would be appearing in the Ballard spin-off:

I don't know if they are. I was not a producer on the Ballard show, so I wasn't reading the scripts.

In an exclusive interview with The Best War Games, Bosch: Legacy fan favorite, Troy Evans, stated:

I was only on the Ballard set one day. They had us in for one scene. That's all we had in the Ballard season.

During the same interview with Moviefone, Welliver stated:

Troy Evans and I have known each other for probably 30 years and he and I are extremely close:

Has the subject of the Ballard spin-off not come up in conversation between Welliver and Evans then? After all, the legendary actors are extremely close. The information is out there in the public eye, so it's not one of Amazon's secrets that they don't want revealing. Amazon's push to cater to the younger demographic with the Ballard spin-off suggests they aren't too concerned about a spoiler about two beloved characters like Crate and Barrel. They absolutely should be, but the mindset of this company is very clear. Let's be fair, Titus Welliver has shown great support for the Save Bosch: Legacy petition, and that is a good thing for Bosch: Legacy and Ballard. In an interview with FabTV, Welliver stated:

There has been a petition. I know on Twitter, they've got something like 33,000 signatures.

To clarify, the fans launched the Save Bosch: Legacy petition on change.org, not Twitter, or X as it's now known. In an interview with The Today Show, Welliver stated:

I always think of petitions as not related to something with showbusiness.

Well, it becomes showbusiness when it gets a lot of media attention.
