Toby Fox, director of Deltarune, gave fans an update about the game's fourth and fifth chapters on Undertale's ninth anniversary, stating that Chapter 4 is essentially complete, and Chapter 5 is the "main focus" right now. Unlike Toby Fox's previous work, Deltarune is an episodic RPG that has had its release spread out over the last few years. The first chapter was shadow-dropped in 2018, with its second chapter having a similar surprise release in 2021. Currently, fans are anticipating the release of Deltarune's next set of chapters, which are Chapters 3 and 4 at the same time.
Toby Fox has been giving fans a steady stream of updates through his social media accounts, as well as his email newsletter that fans can subscribe to. Toby Fox's last update for Deltarune was previously shared in July, where he gave fans some insight into Chapters 3 and 4's completion status, though warning them that it was still a bit of a way off till they could both be released. Fox also promised fans that Chapters 3 and 4 would be the biggest release in Deltarune's history in terms of playtime, as well as the developers beginning work on Chapter 5. Another update has been shared by Toby Fox, recapping progress on the next three Chapters of Deltarune.
30 Years Later, Earthbound’s Legacy Lives On in the Indie Gaming Space
Debuting on the SNES in 1994, Earthbound has gone on to become a cult classic among JRPG enthusiasts and inspired many spiritual successors.
Toby Fox shared this update in a ninth-anniversary newsletter for Undertale, first written on September 3 but released on September 14. He mentions how Deltarune Chapter 3 was content complete a while back, with Japanese localization taking place and should be completed by the start of October, and how PC testing should be in mid-October. Deltarune Chapter 4 is also considered complete in terms of main content, with translation and localization also being worked on. In terms of Chapter 5, anyone who isn't working on either porting Deltarune, localization, or bug fixes is working on Chapter 5, which is currently the team's main focus.
Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 are "Content Complete," Chapter 5 Will Be Main Focus
Toby Fox expressed his excitement over Chapter 5, saying he's really excited to see this chapter get made. He also expressed how he completed his work on both Chapters 3 and 4, and now all he can do is wait for the localization and testing phases. Toby Fox also shared a ton of unused concept art and songs from Deltarune Chapter 2. These include early designs for enemies and characters like Queen, as well as early versions of music tracks for various boss battles with Queen and other antagonists in Chapter 2.
As it is also Undertale's ninth anniversary, Toby Fox shared some news about another collaboration it is having with Fangamer; a special Undertale-themed kitchen collection. Fans can pre-order various things based on the game, such as a plate adorned with Papyrus' sprite, as well as oven mitts and an apron based on Undertale's Toriel.
