Developer Something We Made and co-publisher popagenda have announced that TOEM 2 is in development and have given fans a glimpse at what the game will look like. TOEM 2 is the sequel to the charming indie game TOEM: A Photo Adventure, and it appears to feature much of what made the first title beloved by gamers.
With so many indie games released every year, Something We Made looked to stand out from the crowd with 2021’s TOEM, thanks to a charming hand-drawn world seen through a black-and-white lens. In the game, players are tasked with taking photographs to solve various problems involving TOEM’s cast of characters. Since its release, it has received widespread praise from fans and critics, with the game earning "Overwhelming Positive" reviews on Steam. The development studio is looking to build on TOEM’s success in an upcoming sequel.

With 2024 winding down, Something We Made has revealed that development on TOEM 2 is underway. As part of the announcement, a teaser trailer gave fans a look at what the new game will look like. While it features black-and-white landscapes similar to the original TOEM, the graphics seem to have been improved. Specifically, the brief video showcased more detailed 3D models of objects, such as a tree and a camera.

According to Niklas Mikkelsen, Co-Founder of Something We Made, the development team will consist of many of the same people who worked on the first TOEM, along with some new talent to bring “fresh energy” to the project. The goal of the project is to make something that “can stand proudly beside the original game” by “celebrating what worked” and making improvements to that beloved formula. While the developer looks to be targeting a 2026 release, a specific date has not been revealed.
Despite not many details about the project being known, Something We Made has described the game as a “brand new adventure” featuring the curious photographer from TOEM. The game looks to feature many more memorable characters and will have secrets for players to uncover while they take pictures of the world. The game is coming to PC via the Steam platform, and while console releases are planned, no concrete details about those have been divulged.
It is exciting to see Something We Made get another chance to work on the TOEM property. The first title was fondly remembered by many gamers, so hopefully, this new project will let the development team improve on the already successful premise.
