The Division 2 is a tactical looter-shooter RPG that endows players with dozens of different skills. These skills come in the form of tools – military-grade equipment, with each piece having its own use on the battlefield. Players can choose to run any pair of tools from a selection of 33 complex gadgets. Each of these gadgets, with its own function, can aid a team or harass the enemy. When paired with one another, that's where these tools really shine.
The Division 2: 23 Pro Tips For Beginners
The Division 2 can be fun for new or veteran gamers, but these tips will surely help those just starting off with the title.
Some skills, due to their versatility, will show up multiple times on this list of useful skill combos. Take note, however, that these possibilities are not the end-all-be-all. These entries can still be modified to fine-tune to the player's unique approaches. With that said, here are some useful skill combos in The Division 2.
Updated on March 13, 2024 by Rhenn Taguiam: With The Division 2 kicking off March 2024 with the midway point of its Season 3 for Year 5, fans can expect a lot of twists and turns. Accompanying Season 3 "Vanguard" were the arrival of the Civic Center and Two Bridges, with the Financial District and Battery Park teased for April. With these maps and the season's new gear poised to bring more changes to the shooter RPG, players may want to figure out which skill combinations may be worthwhile during their current progression. Among suggestions include a staple tanking kit for the Firewall, solutions to deadly robotics, and a solo-compatible toolkit.
26 Striker Ballistic Shield & Reviver Hive
Revive Allies While Burning Opponents
Components:
- Striker Ballistic Shield: Allows the Firewall to use the K8-JetStream Flamethrower while boosting the damage of the user and allies behind them based on enemies in front of the shield
- Reviver Hive: Releases small drones that can revive nearby downed friendly units
Among Specializations in Division 2, the Firewall is the closest the game has to a viable tank. Armed with the K8-JetStream Flamethrower, the Firewall can set battlefields ablaze if it means debilitating the enemy’s formation, allowing their team to regroup or reposition to take back the advantage. A key skill combo in the Firewall’s arsenal would be the Striker Ballistic Shield & Reviver Hive, specifically tying into the Firewall’s potential to become a sub-support unit.
At its core, the Strike Ballistic Shield’s opening for the Flamethrower easily bolsters the Firewall’s defense to contend with most threats. This allows them to traverse battlefields safely and deploy their Reviver Hive near downed teammates while they provide supportive fire. This build also supports up-close buffs such as Hunter’s Fury and Adrenaline Rush, making this skill combo quite useful for melee-oriented combatants.
25 Oxidizer Chem Launcher & Jammer Pulse
Destroy Bulky Armor And Disable Robots For Faster Missions
Components:
- Oxidizer Chem Launcher: Releases gas that can break Armor of those affected
- Jammer Pulse: Disrupts target electronics, overloading and disabling them
When players start tackling higher-level plays with better Division 2 weapons, they might find it difficult to contend against the game’s increasing number of heavily-armored foes and robots. Between having to spot their weaknesses and outlasting their durability, the game’s extra layer of challenge can prove difficult for players who don’t know how to bypass these enemies’ weaknesses. This is where the Oxidizer Chem Launcher & Jammer Pulse come in, as this is a skill combo built specifically to destabilize these stronger threats.
Robotics are made easier to deal with once the Jammer Pulse disables hostile electronics and inflicting the Disrupted status. Afterwards, the Oxidizer Chem Launcher should deteriorate Armor worn by opponents, leaving them more vulnerable to the players. With the right timing, players can take down human threats and leave the robot parts for scraps, and encounters can be finished much faster if this build is used with a heavy-firepower team.
24 Shock Trap & Jammer Pulse
Stun Enemies And Bots For Quick Kills
Components:
- Shock Trap: Electrocutes and stuns those that step into its immediate radius
- Jammer Pulse: Disables and overloads hostile electronics
Players who want a stealthier approach to takedowns in Division 2 could also consider Shock Trap & Jammer Pulse, especially in areas with a larger presence of robotics and human hostels. This time around, the Jammer Pulse is in charge of disabling electronics while the Shock Trap stuns human opponents.
When used properly, this build should give players enough time to take down whichever targets they need to eliminate or even have the entire team rush in for the quick kill. Compared to the riskier Oxidier Chem Launcher, the Shock Trap can be deployed in advance - allowing players to take down groups of humans and robots separately and in positions more favorable to them.
23 Reviver Hive & Fixer Drone
Secure Health And Armor In One Trip
Components:
- Reviver Hive: Releases micro-drones that can revive nearby friendlies
- Fixer Drone: A drone that actively repairs Armor when deployed
It’s not always possible for a player to meet teammates to accompany them in difficult Division 2 encounters, which means players need to anticipate being on their own throughout their experience. Since this necessitates creating a heavy-hitting DPS build to sustain solo encounters, the Reviver Hive & Fixer Drone combination can help players secure more survivability regardless of their setup.
At its core, the Fixer Drone ensures players get their Armor repaired consistently during heavy firefights. Likewise, getting into dangerous situations can have the Reviver Hive guarantee the player’s survivability. In sudden team setups, the Fixer Drone and the Reviver Hive can transform solo players into sub-support units, allowing them to contribute to the fight without being stuck in the front with a shotgun or the rear with a rifle.
22 Crusader Shield & Defender Drone
Get To The Frontlines With A Defensive Option
Components:
- Crusader Shield: A lighter shield that only covers a player’s upper body, although allowing them to use an AR, SMG, and Shotgun.
- Defender Drone: This Drone lets players deflect bullets that are aimed towards players or targeted friendlies.
Players who want to spice things up in their Division 2 gameplay may want to try a more defensive approach. Instead of equipping the standard Ballistic Shield, a Crusader Shield should give Agents ample room to maintain an aggressive approach in hostile territories while maintaining both speed and defense.
5 Things The Division 2 Does Better Than Destiny 2 (& 5 It Does Worse)
While both Destiny 2 and The Division 2 possess similar characteristics, there are clearly some aspects one title covers better than the other.
Since the Crusader Shield can only protect the user’s upper body, the Defender Drone is an ideal partner as it can deflect other bullets coming the player’s way. Even if the Defender Drone deflects upper-body shots, the Crusader Shield can still then tank much of the other damage. This combination can then incentivize riskier plays without the defensive fallout.
21 Striker Drone & Decoy
Lure Enemies In The Open For Quick Kills
Components:
- Striker Drone: This Drone can be programmed to attack the player’s chosen target or the closest hostile.
- Decoy: This gadget grabs the attention of enemy units, forcing them to shoot it instead of the player.
It’s one thing to take opponents out by stealth, and another for a player to fool opponents completely in their Division 2 gameplay. The first half of this Skill Combo is the Decoy, which upon deployment will distract enemies and encourage them to focus their attention on the Decoy’s direction.
When enemies reveal themselves, this is the ideal time for players to pick them off. Should enemies slip past the Decoy’s illusion, a Striker Drone prepared in advance should tip players off on the general location of other hostiles to avoid unnecessary flanking.
20 Sniper Turret & Striker Drone
Take Out Enemies From Afar And While They Approach
Components:
- Sniper Turret: This semi-auto, long-distance Turret fights the same target of the players.
- Striker Drone: Players can program this Drone to attack the nearest hostile or a target of their choosing.
One of the best approaches a Division Agent could have in any Division 2 mission is absolute offense, especially when they’re almost always alone fighting various unruly Division 2 factions in dystopian Washington DC. Thanks to sophisticated Division tech, Agents have a way of outmaneuvering any number of foes, with the Sniper Turret + Striker Drone allowing players to approach any range of combat, regardless of the situation.
At its core, the Striker Drone is easily a nifty companion in terms of sheer firepower. This mobile Drone can pick off tough Division 2 enemies within range due to relentless shooting, giving players room to focus on other targets. The Sniper Turret is a decent targeting back-up as well, as it also attacks the same target players are aiming at with a slight delay. When timed perfectly, players can have the Sniper aim at a target, have the Striker attack potential backup, with players providing extra firepower only when necessary.
19 Decoy & Artificer Hive
Distract Opponents While Repairing Everyone Else's Gear
Components:
- Decoy: This gadget deploys a distraction to grab the enemy’s attention, forcing them to destroy this item first instead of attacking players.
- Artificer Hive: The Hive releases micro-drones that repair other deployed units and improves their performance.
When outnumbered by dangerous foes in Division 2 like the Hyenas, players know that sometimes a diversion is easily the best form of defense. This build capitalizes on the potential of the Holographic Distraction Decoy to provide something of the sort, with this Skill creating a life-like projection of the player to grab the attention of foes. This allows players to move to a safer space while enemies are distracted.
The Artificer Hive emphasizes the specialization of the Agent as an offensive support, especially since this Hive variant exclusive to the Technician repairs and improves the performances of other deployed Skills. When utilized properly, this Technician-heavy build can transform otherwise struggling teams into powerhouses. Combined with the Decoy, players can provide struggling teammates with much-needed Artificer support while the double redirects foes to another direction.
18 Artillery Turret & Striker Drone
Long-Distance Barrage With Heavy Backup
Components:
- Artillery Turret: When deployed, the Artillery Turret chooses the closest targets within its 360-degree viewing radius.
- Striker Drone: Players can use this offensive Drone to attack a target of their choosing or the closest hostile.
Sometimes, one of the best approaches a Division Agent can have when outnumbered is through outright chaos in Division 2 gameplay. This build capitalizes on the area-of-effect nature of the Artillery Turret, which makes it a great way of scattering tight groups of opponents, attracting the attention of coordinated foes, or sowing chaos before finishing the enemy squad. This is thanks to the main focus of the Artillery Turret, which allows it to launch explosive ordinances to a location, making it a perfect complement to the Demolitionist Specialization.
The Striker Drone once again proves its place as the perfect complement to the other Skills when it comes to building toolkits. This Drone’s target-based focus-firing can help players finish off reinforcements before they even get to attack the player and/or the Artillery Turret.
17 Cluster Seeker Mines & Striker Drone
Scatter Opponents With A Nearby Strike Drone For Good Measure
Components:
- Cluster Seeker Mines: When activated, this Seeker Mine releases clusters of self-propelling explosive charges.
- Striker Drone: This offensive Drone attacks a designated or the closest target to the player.
Despite the forward-facing nature of Division Agents when outfitted with The Division 2 Skills, this doesn’t mean players can no longer approach things stealthily. Key to this build is the Cluster Seeker Mines, which deploys smaller seeking mines that “selects” stationary targets and explode in contact. Theoretically, this Skill alone serves to scatter clusters of opponents, either killing them off immediately or ruining their routine and leaving them quite open for players to strike a quick attack.
The Striker Drone serves a dual purpose for this particular build. Its target-seeking meta gives players room to strike reinforcements before they even pose a threat, while this can also ensure targets of the Seeker Mines are finished off before they recover.
