Summary

  • Bam Margera has been confirmed for THPS3+4 and will be making a return as a secret skater.
  • Fans anticipated his absence due to personal issues, but Tony Hawk apparently advocated for his inclusion.
  • Early previews of THPS3+4 campaign modes and skate parks have received positive feedback.

Developer Iron Galaxy has confirmed that former professional skateboarder and Jackass star Bam Margera will indeed be making an appearance in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4. The highly anticipated duo of games are remakes of Pro Skater 3 and 4, which were originally released in 2001 and 2002, respectively. The first two entries in the iconic skateboarding series already received remakes in 2020 and earned positive reviews across the board, so expectations are high for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 expanded on the formula of the originals, upgrading graphics with a modern engine while maintaining core mechanics that made the experience so popular. Along with larger levels and new tricks, it featured returning skaters, secret characters, and online multiplayer. The community anticipates much of the same from the upcoming release, though until now it seemed that there might be one major change. While he appeared in the original Pro Skater 3 and Pro Skater 4, there were persistent rumors that Bam Margera would be omitted from THPS3+4.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 Reveals More Songs for Its Soundtrack

Activision reveals some new and classic songs players can expect to jam out to when Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 releases this Summer.

In April, Margera himself hinted that he would not be in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4, much to the dismay of fans. He did reveal, however, that both he and Tony Hawk wanted him to make an appearance, pointing out that publisher Activision already had all the mocap from 20 years ago. As revealed during the THPS Fest on May 8, Bam Margera will be a secret and unlockable skater in the remake when it launches on July 11.

Bam Margera Will Be a Secret Skater in THPS3+4

In addition to appearing as a playable character in both Pro Skater 3 and 4, Bam Margera cameo'd in multiple games in the franchise, including Tony Hawk’s Underground, American Wasteland, and 2007’s Proving Ground. But his potential absence from the remake, while disappointing to fans, was also viewed by some as inevitable, given the skater’s public legal and personal struggles. Margera was even notoriously fired from the filming of Jackass Forever in 2021 after allegedly sending threats to director Jeff Tremaine’s family. But Tony Hawk supposedly went to bat for his friend, insisting that he remain in THPS3+4.

During the THPS Fest, lucky fans were able to preview Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4’s two campaign modes and some of the skate parks, including a new one called Waterpark. Early feedback indicates a positive impression, with many praising the way the remake looks and feels. THPS3+4 is a smoother, prettier version of what came before, with developer Iron Galaxy following the example set by Vicarious Visions with THPS1+2: improving the experience while remaining faithful to the original.
